  1. You are most welcome, Gnosis Exchange!
  2. hahahahaha! That is hilarious!
  3. Hey there Overworkedta (awesome handle!), thank you so much for sharing the news that you got funded, even though it wasn't a Fulbright. Congratulations!!! That was an important message for me to hear: Fulbright is NOT the only fish in the sea! There are LOTS of ways to get funding, if one has a great attitude (like you!), is persistent, and wants it badly enough. GnosisExchange, it is we who should thank you for your upbeat posts and encouraging spirit! Darce, it's totally OK to be a lurker here! Like Olioliwoo said, you're not intruding! We're all here to encourage and help one another. I also don't have a country interview, but I would say have your project down pat in a way that can be shared in under 30 seconds and be enthusiastic, and be yourself! I'm sure you'll do great! Hey Vodnik, thanks for telling us what your FPA said. I'm sure the sequester has affected the Fulbright program and that's my guess as to why the notifications are "wonky" this year. We'll all keep hanging in there. Socal14, Congratulations!!! I'm on the west coast too (Washington), but wasn't up at 6:00 AM. I'm glad YOU were, though, to receive the great news! Hi there, Smartey Martey! It's Africa's month as well! I'm still looking for someone out there who also has been recommended for a research grant in Sub Saharen Africa. Anyone?? Anyone?? Varlet Sirin, I'm so sorry. I highly recommend applying again next year if you can. And as Overworkedta pointed out, perhaps there are other sources of funding you can tap into. Mrgold, Coongratulations!!! Well, I suppose that sooner or later I should stop reading this thread and do some statistics homework (UGH!). But then again, anything to keep my miind off my in box!
  4. I'm getting more terrified every day! Who else out there is recommended for a grant in Sub Saharen Africa? (I'm applying for Zambia.) From the excel spreadsheet, and by the way, THANK YOU to whomever maintains those, it looks like we will hear sometime between April 15 and the end of April. I can hardly stand the suspense! I've built my entire dissertation proposal around this Fulbright and if I don't get it, I am going to have to change gears and FAST! I keep re-reading my grant proposal and personal statement, like that will help anything! Give me a shout out if you're recommended for Sub Saharen Africa!
  5. SubSaharan Africa-- we have around a month to go! According to the spreadsheet, looks like mid-April for us. YIKES!!! Any SubSaharan Africa folks out there? I'm a recommendee for Zambia, which traditionally gives 2 grants, although that's not set in stone anymore in SSA.
  6. Hi olioliwoo, I do not believe that research grants and ETAs necessarily hear back on the same day. Does anyone else have more clarification on this?
  7. CONGRATULATIONS FROGISM! What is your research topic?
  8. Hey Torrid, thanks for the honest answer. I'm surprised they actually told someone that was a factor. I also have a disability and my FPA told me not to mention it in my application because she had heard they discriminate against applicants with disabilities. However, I have been to Zambia twice and know where I'll be going if I get the Fulbright and it is absolutely no problem with my disability. Actually, living out in a village is probably easier with a disability (I use a walker) than the city where I have to deal with stairs, doorways, bathrooms, etc. in a country where there is no equivilant to the ADA.
  9. Hey, lalakey, where did you get accepted, and into what program? Why aren't you 100% sold on it? I hope you get the Fulbright!
  10. Hey all, I'm a doctoral candidate applying for a full research grant for Zambia. My proposed project is to write a history (cultural and intellectual) of the Chewa people in Zambia. Is anyone out there applying to Zambia or anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa? Also, has anyone heard anything about age discrimination in the selection process? I'm nervous because I'm 53 and worried they may favor younger students who have a longer career ahead of them.
  11. Raymondnorth, thank you so much for sharing the google docs link! I now know I can expect to be notified around the middle of April. Funny, but that makes me feel better. I can postpone the knots in my stomach until April!
