  1. Yours was posted?? Mine hasn't been yet. I received the acceptance email from the graduate coordinator and spoke to her directly but still have not had my status updated. I assume based on your applied to list that your Canadian MA school was McGill?
  2. I'm not sure about the options, I didn't apply for them. Did you get your "official letter" yet and status changed on your application?
  3. Haha, this makes me feel a bit better. I'm very glad I'm not the only paranoid one rbamattre, good call. Looking it up it definitely seems like we are all suffering from impostors syndrome.
  4. I understand what you are going through as I am in a very similar situation. What is it you ultimately hope to achieve? That question really helped me. If you want an MA to help open more doors for you (career-wise) and to increase your eventual salary the small school with funding would seem to be the best choice (based on the limited information provided). If however you want to go for your phd or something like that, especially abroad, then going to the prestigious school, busting your butt to stand out, and taking on the debt is worth it. It's an extremely difficult choice, and sadly it's one that gets little sympathy, and few listeners who are willing to ACTUALLY listen, understand the predicament, and offer GOOD advice (so many people either call you a lucky whiny b*tch, or say 'oh man, go there, that is such a fun city and the clubs are so awesome!' (yeah, because we are working so hard and paying so much to drink it up and party.)). ps. as a future MA in English please don't judge my poor spelling, grammar and punctuation too harshly!
  5. Does anyone else get completely paranoid when they receive an email of acceptance? I've gotten acceptance from all the schools I applied to, each sent an email of congratulations from the graduate coordinators first, before my status was changed and before the official letter. Never the less, I still become unbelievably paranoid (until the status changes) that it's some sick joke by some bored student, or someone trying to get me to decline the other offers to "take out the competition". Have I just gone crazy, or is this a legitimate fear suffered by other applicants? And if so, why? Is it fear of rejection and bullying, or do we (or just I) not think I"m good enough to have gotten accepted?
  6. Anyone heard form McGill for the MA in PoliSci program yet? I know they did their 'final review' yesterday so I'm not surprised theres no word but I am going CRAZY waiting! already checked my status and email account 30 times today (each!!)
  7. YES! send the email! even if you don't accept there you have (potentially) made a valuable contact! A simple email stating that you are considering attending that school, asking what classes they will be teaching in the upcoming year, and that you are familiar with their research and find that it overlaps with yours (then give a brief idea of what yours is and that you would greatly appreciate their expert opinion on the merit of your research question) will suffice. (note: not in that order of course) At the best you will attract their attention and they will be interested in supervising you, or know of someone who will be well suited to do so. It's possible they may just shoot you back an email saying yeah that sounds good and it goes nowhere, in which case if you need to contact them in the future for your research you have already established a connection which is extremely beneficial. At the worst they just won't respond and will forget about your email, in which case no harm done. YOU CAN'T LOSE!
  8. Sending an email is not a bad idea. As long as you aren't constantly pestering them a short email asking about your standing won't hurt any.
  9. Thanks for the help! I (just) recieved a message from the graduate officer, they will be meeting on March 11th to review their final decisions then the results will follow that week or the following. Fingers crossed, and best of luck!
  10. I applied to several universities, including McGill for my MA in Political Science. I've been accepted to all the others, but have not heard back from McGill! my status is currently in 'under review', and my deadlines for decisions re. accepting or declining to the other universities is coming up fast! Has anyone been accepted to the MA in polisci program at McGill yet? or does anyone know when I'll hear from them with their decision? ps. sent an email to them to try and find out if they have started offering admission or when they will be (roughly), no response as of yet.
