  1. I would highly recommend Magoosh for the GRE. I am a terrible test taker. After I studied all of the modules on Magoosh and took the practice tests, I went up by 12 points! To some my scores aren't high, but to me they are considering my standardized test taking abilities. I think it's around $85.00 for a one year subscription. It is well worth it! They also have an app you can download. Oh and they have a ton of flash cards. Good luck!
  2. I was accepted with lower stats than yours. You have to find the right program for your stats. Then write a strong letter of intent and great LOR's. I had 5 LOR's this year.
  3. I wrote a stronger letter of intent, retook the GRE, and used different professors for my LOR's. I talked to them and got personal with them about who I was and why I was interested. As you can see my cumulative GPA was not strong, but I explained that in my letter. I also did not have any additional observation hours. I was, however, a teacher for 3 years (foreign and domestic). Message me if you have any questions. I know how difficilt this process is. It has been a long road for my family and I, but I am so grateful it is over!
  4. Hey guys! This is my third year applying, and I finally got an acceptance and 2 wait lists. Don't lose hope! I promise your season will come. If this is your dream, keep pursuing it! Good luck to those of you who are still waiting!
  5. I accepted my offer yesterday because I did not want to lose it. I am wait listed at 2 schools, one of which is my top choice. If I am accepted to my top choice, I will accept the offer and let the other school know I would like to withdrawal my decision. I hate to do it, but I know this happens all the time. Good luck!
  6. Caterpillar- thank you for the great info about FHSU. That is very helpful! I'm still waiting on 4 schools but FH seems great. I was just hoping for a bigger city as it's very similar to the size of the one I'm in now. But hey I'll take what I can get!
  7. I did my post bac work at UCA and loved it!!! I was going to apply there this year, but my husband and I are ready to be out of arkansas. UCA has wonderful professors and they just got a new chair, Dr. Lance. She is really nice. I would highly recommend UCA! The school is in Conway, AR which is a nice area in Arkansas. There is a lot to do there and they have good grocery stores. I know that sounds weird but I was born and raised a Cali girl so moving here was major culture shock. I am on the west side and we don't have the options like Conway or North West Arkansas. UCA is a beautiful campus too! The only negative is the weather. Other than that, it is a great place to live and raise a family. The cost of living is cheap and the people are extremely nice. I hope this helps please let me know if you have any questions about the area or UCA!
  8. It is a long drive! I am from Palm Springs, Ca and have lived in Arkansas for 5 years. My husband and I have done the drive to and from Cali many times. It's brutal but fun! I hate that it has taken so long for this door to open, but looking back it has been such a blessing. I prayed and prayed that if this was the right field for me a door would open. If not, I would go back to teaching. Thank God he opened a door because I really did not want to be back in the school system! Have a great trip and thank you again in advanced for the info on FHSU!
  9. Oh that would be awesome! Thank you so much. I hope you get accepted off the wait list. I know how rough this process is. Are you going all the way out there from Cali? If so, that is a long way! Did you apply to the distance program at Idaho? I applied to Meridian and Pocatello. By the posts I have seen I don't think I got into the Meridian campus since I haven't heard anything. I am so blessed by 1 school, but I am ready to hear back from the others.
  10. For those of you accepted to FHSU, do you know much about the area and program? The people that I have spoken to are so nice. I just didn't know if anyone has been to the campus and met the department staff in person. Any information is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advanced and good luck!
  11. I am a post-bac and third year applicant. My BA is in Political Science. My GPA is only a 2.77 (clearly I had different priorities my first few years). I went back to school and got a post-bac certificate and got a 3.75. My last 60 units GPA is a 3.54. My GRE scores are 149-Verbal, 151-quant, and 4.0 AW. I finally got my first acceptance letter this year. After 12 rejections it finally happened. I talked to some of the schools and they told me that having a second bachelors would help (esp with my old GPA), to retake the GRE (which I did and went up 12 points), to rewrite my personal statement and make it very strong, and to get more than the minimum required letters of reference. If I didn't get accepted this year, I was going to take the few extra courses and get a second bachelors. I think it is very beneficial. Good luck!
