  1. thanks for the help. i withdrew from the program because of financial difficulties and i returned home to help my family because they're having financial difficulties and couldnt afford for help me to continue living out of state, i endlessly searched for employment and assistantships. I'm currently unemployed and looking for jobs to help my family and to try and save up for school this semester. i'm in tons of debt from undergrad and still owe my previous msw program a hefty bill that i probably have to continue paying off for the next 5-6 five years. i'm around 60k now in loans, 30k was just from my [previous msw program-hence why i left.) ive been applying to assistantships and jobs to help for school but it has not been easy. I'm not expecting them to give me a full ride, just a little more, but they're most likely going to tell me to take out more loans, which is going to add to my financial situation.
  2. I recently just got accepted to BC as a transfer student and I received an award letter. I am very grateful for the scholarship because part of the reason for me leaving my previous msw program was due to financial issues because they gave me no scholarships and I was paying everything with loans. I was hoping I would receive more money from BC because last year when I applied, I received a more generous scholarship. last year, I decided to attend an out of state msw program to have a new experience in another city....clearly a huge financial risk, but i then realized that it would be best for me to go back to boston and just go to school while living at home. How can i ask for more financial aid?
  3. I applied to both Boston College and Simmons College as a transfer MSW student and have yet to hear back. I applied early feb for BC and late feb for Simmons. I've called both schools and their still reviewing my application, but I'm worried that I might get waitlisted, especially with BC since I applied 2 weeks after their transfer deadline ( i withdrew from my out of state msw program last minute for financial reasons and then applied to transfer to BC same week). anyone else still waiting to hear back? it feels like forever.
  4. Thanks for the feedback. I probably should have mentioned that im originally from boston and was attending an msw program out of state, hence why i had financial issues. If i attend BC i would be saving money because i would be living at home.
  5. so i applied to BC 2 weeks after the transfer deadline (Jan 15) because i had to leave my previous msw program immediately this semester for financial reasons, I have yet to hear back and i was accepted to the program when i applied last year. I called when I applied and they said that they would still accept my application but it's been almost 7 weeks since i applied. What do you think my chances are for this year?
  6. I'm from boston, I visited Loyola in november and I really felt connected to the program. I was debating between boston college and loyola and although BC gave me more money, i still felt that I would have regretted not going out of state because I've pretty much lived in boston all of my life. I know that if I wanted to experience a new city, now would be the best time. I already have a network in boston and after I graduate I could always come back to do a certificate program at BC or work in boston. my top two programs were BC and Loyola because they both have a very strong clinical focus. All of the other schools didn't give me much scholarship money and i also didn't feel as strong about them as I did for Loyola. When it came own to it it was about what type of experience I wanted to have and i knew that chicago would be a new experience and it would be a challenge.
  7. I have made my decision and will be attending Loyola University in Chicago! I was hoping to meet other new students as well! Anyone else coming from out of state?
  8. They want to cap the amount of forgiven loans at $57,500, most people in the human service field have loans for both graduate school and undergraduate that exceed this amount. Most people are in 80-150k in debt and we don't make enough money to pay the rest back at a reasonable monthly amount.
  9. Yay great!! Everyone SPREAD THE WORD! WE HAVE UNTIL APRIL 5, 2014!
  10. We all know that we'll be in lots of debt after graduate school. Let's make sure that we can have our loans forgiven in 10 years!! We work hard to serve others and we deserve recognition. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/retain-public-interest-loan-forgiveness-program-its-current-form-forgiving-all-qualifying-student/wkqnqBCH
  11. Has anyone been accepted to either of these programs? I think my final decision might come down to these schools, I just think it's really convenient that Loyola offers housing since I'll be coming from out of state, but so far BC offered me the most money out of my schools. Does anyone know if Loyola typically offers scholarships or decent financial aid packages? Any thoughts?
  12. wow i know most schools don't really give money but really? not even need based aid? where do they expect us to get 10-20k if you've already taken out the maximum amount of loans? out of pocket?
  13. Has any one gotten any financial aid packages yet? It's been really hard for me to narrow down my decisions without financial aid. I'm just hoping I can get financial aid awards before these deadlines..they don't give us enough time If you have gotten your financial aid for either NYU, Fordham, BC, Loyola, or UMich...how much did you get and if not do any of you know roughly how much these schools cost a year? feel free to PM me if you don't want to say your amount I just need help narrowing down some schools.
  14. any one hear back about financial aid?
  15. I need help deciding on a school!!! I haven't gotten any financial aid packages yet which is really making my decision more difficult and I'm still waiting to hear from more schools, but these are my TOP....I know that these are all great MSW schools but I can't seem to lean more towards one than the other. I wasn't even expecting to get into most of them, I'm from Boston and I've lived here/went to school here all my life so I really want to go out of state (new experience, etc)...BUT BC has an amazing MSW program. I would only stay if BC gave me a lot of money. SO now my options out of state are all great but I don't know where I should go. Loyola (Chicago) has housing which is GREAT but I don't know much about the program in term of placement opportunities and where the neighborhoods are. I don't have a car so I'm looking at cities that are good with public transportation. UMICH (Michigan) doesn't really have that so I will be stuck in Ann Arbor, but it's an amazing program with LOTS of resources..again NO housing. Fordham (NYC) is also a great school (very similar to BC and Loyola) but there's no housing and I don't want to commute for more than an hour to get to class and be broke in NYC. Realistically I'll be broke no matter where I go (the reality of a grad student). This decision is hard for me without knowing how much I have to pay or knowing the exact total cost of the school. Has anyone else received any financial aid packages from any of these schools or know roughly how much it would cost? Any opinions?? I also have to contact fordham and possibly BC for an extension because I need more time.
