  1. Yeah, someone several pages back emailed someone from Fulbright asking when Germany would hear, and they said that it might be later than usual due to "delays." I'm not sure exactly what those delays are, but I'm guessing eatyourgreens is correct. I'm still crossing my fingers for tomorrow though!
  2. German Research/ETA hopefuls: do you think maybe April 1st will be the day? I noticed that acceptances are usually on a Tuesday for us... Then again, the delays might mean we have to wait a little longer.
  3. Thanks for your input, everyone. You are right- sometimes it's easy to forget that colleges don't intend to string students along, and obviously a place like Chapel Hill would get applications from many, many qualified applicants. I'll try to breathe deep and think happy thoughts the next time I apply. I was rejected this time around, but I'm going to try, try again in a couple years. Good luck to everyone else!
  4. I just got my much-awaited rejection from them as well. I agree that it was thoughtless and a bit inconsiderate of them to do it like this. We probably were waitlisted, but it would have been nice to know.
  5. Oh gosh, I got this email from my Fulbright Advisor. Apparently they've been having issues sending out notifications: We are sending Fulbright US Student selection notification emails over the next few weeks, The email to some of your students and copied to you may not get through to @xxxx.edu If you become aware of a student(s) who should have received email notification and did not, please check with your IT people. The message may have been blocked or could be in a spam filter. As if we weren't stressed enough already...
  6. This is driving me crazy too! I think for Germany it'll either be the 25th or the 1st. Although if all my stars somehow aligned and I did get accepted, and it was on April 1st, I would probably think it was a cruel, cruel April Fool's joke
  7. I'm curious as well. I'm sure they require those of us doing research to know a bit more German, or at least enough to conduct our research properly.
  8. Leighton- I emailed them two weeks ago, with no answer. Maybe it means we've both been waitlisted! That's better than outright rejection I guess. Best of luck to you!
  9. Thank you for the advice! I definitely will contact him then.
  10. For those of us expecting to hear at the end of March/beginning of April: my official guess is for March 25th, not that my guess is worth much
  11. hardtack&coffee: Glad to hear it! I'm very excited to meet the faculty and students and start researching. I study modern German history, but I'm kind of at a crossroads- I studied Nazi Germany as an undergrad, but I'm considering making the switch to German Cold War history, preferably from a social angle. I was thinking Dr. Zakic or Dr. Curp might be good potential advisors. I also listed Dr. Trauschweizer as a potential advisor on my SOP because I did my undergrad thesis on Jewish-American POW's of the Third Reich. I haven't contacted any of them yet though; I should probably get on that... Is there anyone else you can think of that might be interested in what I'm doing?
  12. I live in mid-Michigan right now, so Athens is warmer than I'm used to! I'm totally fine with that though.
  13. I'm trying to distract myself with papers and homework, but it's not working; I just can't concentrate on anything! Awful timing too, since I'm taking a class with a prof that I eventually hoped might be my PhD advisor, but I'm pretty sure I'm doing fairly badly in his class right now, since it's hard to focus while I'm waiting for news. Maybe I should give up, subscribe to Netflix, and just check out until the results come back
  14. I applied for a research grant to Germany. I was absolutely stunned that I made it to the final round- I think I started my application a lot later than most people. This wait is agonizing... I've also been getting a lot of rejections from PhD programs (I'm about to graduate with a BA), so that really kills my confidence for my Fulbright chances, but maybe I still have a chance with this? Maybe?
