  1. If you've made a life-changing decision at the last moment, you owe it to yourself to wait for the proper deadlines (Sept thru Dec). Apply to a range of good schools, you'll only go once and it will be over before you know it.
  2. Yes, I've yet to hear from Virginia Tech. When I emailed they told me I should hear by the middle of next week (which was yesterday).
  3. Congratulations! I also applied for poetry. I was living in Boston and had some correspondence with the faculty, which I thought would help. Unless I get a phonecall it looks like I am going to strike out this year. And so it was I entered the working world...
  4. Hello folks, I applied to a billion-and-one creative writing programs for 2015 and am down to five. I thought perhaps rejections would come first, while no answer so late would indicate one was a finalist, as it were. Has anyone heard from these schools? My fingernails can't hold out much longer... Boston University (BU) Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) UC Irvine (UCI) U of Illinois (UIC) Virginia Tech (VT) Thanks for your feedback!
  5. Thanks for your thoughtful reply, Wyatt. What if I were to get an MFA prior to the PhD? Would that make any sense? Waiting a few more years (i.e., whilst in the MFA program) might help me to better prepare for the doctoral application process.
  6. Hello friends, I have begun applying to Art History PhD programs well beyond the first ten, as given here: http://arthistorynewsletter.com/blog/?p=5204. I am sorely worried about hiring potential. I read somewhere on GC, If you're not admitted to a Top Ten program, don't go! Here's my problem! It's possible for me to do an MFA in Creative Writing (poetry). Does anyone have a hunch which degree would fare better on the job market? If I took this route, I suspect my chances of being admitted to a more prestigious school are higher.... Thanks for your opinions!

  8. Do these programs offer funding, and could you list a few of them here?
  9. Hello GradCafe, I was previously considering PNCA's (Portland, OR) MA in Critical Theory and Creative Research, but the financial investment is too great. I understand how absurd this will sound, but is anyone aware of MA/PhD in Art History programs with active deadlines (i.e. admission for Fall 2014)?

  11. Hello, everyone. I have been accepted for the Pacific Northwest College of Art's MA in Critical Theory and Creative Research. Tuition is approximately 47k with a scholarship of 10k (no stipend, &c.) The school estimates I will need to borrow 60-70k to cover living expenses (this is a one-year program). If my goal is to enter a PhD in Fall 2015, is it worth the debt? My concerns are: 1) A one-year program will not afford me enough time to ingratiate myself with faculty and prepare substantial PhD applications. 2) If I want to pursue a PhD in Art History I will not be deemed qualified after earning a Master's in Critical Theory, although my thesis will be art-history based. 3) If I fail to secure a PhD for Fall 2015 I will have to begin repaying these loans. Should I decline PNCA's offer of admission?

Has anyone attended the Pacific Northwest College of Art? It's in the Pearl District.
