  1. smile.gif Well, in fact, I think HGS is a very good place, my first choice was a room in HGS, but I did not get it, so I am going to 254 p street.
  2. Hi,

I took the GRE general after a crash 3 days of work and it wasn't enough to get me accepted in the university I wanted...

    V : 490

    Q : 760

    W : 3.0

I'm from Europe and English is not my native language (TOEFL iBT 98/120). I'm planning to apply again next year and I want to improve my scores in the general test, and take the CS subject also. What is your favorite support (book -available on amazon if possible) for general and especially for the CS subject test?

    Best,

I studied the ETS book and the Barron's book( which contains a list of 3500 words), I am neither a native english speaker( IBT 101/120), My general scores were as follows:

    520 verbal

    800 quantitative

    3 AW

I took a physics GRE and my score was 990.

these scores were enough to get me in the school that I love!

  3. Hi!

I am moving to New Haven in the late August, when should I begin to look for off-campus housing in East Rock neighbourhood and how? is there a specific website for renting a house in the East Rock?

  4. Looking very likely I'll be headed to Yale in the fall. Anyone else on here going to New Haven?

    Hi,

I am accepted to physics PhD program at Yale and I have accepted their offer and I am going to New Haven the mid august! It's a really great school I love love love it! have you done anything about housing yet?

  5. Congratulations!

I think the money you list should be plenty. I pay just under $900 a month for a nice if somewhat old-fashioned one-room East Rock apartment (including heat). Food and stuff is expensive, but probably no moreso than elsewhere on the east coast. This is especially true if you have a car. You'll pay a no-car premium.

As for the social scene, I too can't comment too personally, but there are certainly a lot of popular and busy downtown restaurants and bars, and the grad school has mixers and happy hours and such that usually seem to be very well attended. There are lots of graduate students, as was pointed out.

    thanks,

what's the differences between out-campus and on-campus housing? is there any difference in the money you pay?

  6. Hi everybody!laugh.gif

I am an international student, and I am admitted to Yale Physics PhD Programtongue.gif , my financial aid is a 32,500$ University fellowship for tuition and a 29,000$ stipend; I have no idea of living expenses at New Havenblink.gif , and I will appreciate it if you could tell me whether is this enough for a decent student life in New Haven?rolleyes.gif taking this fact into account that I am not going to share my apartment with anybody else!angry.gif I also wonder if you could tell me that which percent of this money will be gone by tax?unsure.gif

    Thanks!smile.gif

  7. I reported my Gre Scores 15 days ago, I requested ets to report both General and Subject Test(GS) in one order; at the first sight, they reported both, and in front of the name of my universities, was the sign (GS) which means both General and Subject scores have been reported. I do not know whether both tests are reported or not because those additional universities I sent my scores to, have no link to trace your material, except Princeton university, but in Princeton checklist it is just mentioned that my GRE General score has been received and my Subject is not!!! and I am now very dubious that both of my scores are reported.

  8. Will they answer the question: "Is there a separate line item for receipt of scores from the GRE Subject test, and will it be labeled as such? Or will it be grouped on the same line as the GRE General test?"

I got the answer from FAQ:

they do not confirm the receipt of GRE Subject, but if they receivr general they will receive subject too

  9. I have submitted my application 10 days ago. In my Application Status it is mentioned that : ''GRE:RECEIVED'' does this title GRE includes both general and subject? I ask this because some universities use ''GRE'' title for general test and have a seperate title '' GRE SUBJECT'' for subject test, but I guess yale use the title GRE for both of them, but still the fact that there is nothing named GRE SUBJECT in my application status makes me somehow concerned that my subject test is not received!!! please help!!!

  10. Good for what? I think anything above 1300 should be ok for most places, but it's definitely not the greatest score... My scores are very similar (also international student) - Q750 V560 AW 3.5 - I think the worst of it is AW, but then again a lot of people say that they don't look at it so much. It was my second try at GRE, first time I got 4.5...

Bluntly, I just hate GRE smile.gif

I mean good for going to top ten. Of course taking into account the fact that my gre physics score is 990/990, I think I have done not bad for top ten, what's your idea?

  11. I am an Iranian senior undergraduate student.I got 990 on physics gre test (95%) , My GPA is 3.98 converted to 4 scale and I am the top student of my university, I have two TA experience in University, and I am styding in the best university of Iran, my TOEFL score is 101 and I don't know my gre general scores yet, but I think my quantative is 800, verbal 540 and analytical writing 3.5, What's the chance for going to top ten physics school?
