I accepted Iowa and now need to deal with moving from NYC to Iowa on 8/1. Feel free to share your moving plans! I think I'm heading to Iowa City the first week of May to look for an apartment, since many are already posted with an 8/1 move-in date.

I'm also getting a new Mac when I start school in the fall, but I'm waiting -- they're apparently releasing new models in June, so I'm going to order just before school starts.

I should be... Still waiting to hear from a few other schools, but Iowa is my top choice, so I'll likely go there. I've started looking into getting an apartment already (and am confused about it all). Just go tthe invitation to Visitor Weekend and it's so last-minute I'm not sure if I can take off work and make it!

Not to rain on any parades here, but I just got into a PhD program many states away from my bf, who has to stay where we are now to finish his own grad school, and we decided to break up rather than try a long distance relationship for several years. We've been together 2 years so it wasn't an easy call, but ultimately, we think we'll be happier being single, focused on school, and not making each other wait years until we could settle. After all, one never knows where they will go after the PhD program is done, so there's no guarantee we'd be in the same place even after those 6 years.

Thanks Decaf, that guide was very helpful! Based on all the info here, I think I should come out to Iowa City in April/May and get an apartment with an 8/1 move-in date. I live in NYC now and don't have a car, but it looks like I won't need one as long as I'm near a cambus line. If any of this sounds wrong to anyone, let me know! BTW: I'll likely be accepting my Iowa admission offer. Still waiting to hear from a few schools (most I haven't heard from at all, others I'm waitlisted), but Iowa is my top choice out of the pending schools, so I'll likely accept. Not booking any flights until I do.
