  1. Well, that makes two insane people! I got my masters in intl education, so I felt a little overqualified for the ETA. I applied to Russia multiple times and Turkmenistan, where I was selected, but the program was canceled. Now, I am researching a sub-field of citizen diplomacy in Armenia. Therefore, I started from scratch on this essay. Admittedly, I ended up finding my own contract in Russia and then lived in Central Asia--so if you are interested in Kenya/Ethiopia/India, I hope you've found another route. Fulbright isn't the only way...and at times it seems super elitist.
  2. We create a google sheet on this forum to track it ourselves since IIE doesn't publish the statistics until the next round.
  3. Thank you for creating this!
  4. This is my fourth time applying, but my first time applying to the academic program. I am pretty sure that we all get notified on the first round at the same time, but then everyone gets notified at different times for the final round. In the past, Latin America and some Asian countries get notified first. The last time I applied, Central Asia was last due to political issues/funding.
  5. Hey there, Did anyone apply to Russian or have experience with the Russian program?
  6. In the past, the first round of results have come out middle/late January. It depends on the region for which you applied.
  7. I am late to the forum this year. Do we have an excel documenting to which program everyone applied?
  8. Got alternate for ETA in Tajikistan. Dunno if I should wait or just accept my grad school offers.
  9. The Turkmen program has always been a little iffy, and I knew that when I filled in my application. It's often regarded as the N. Korea of Central Asia due to its lack of media freedom according to IGOs. Last year's group was accepted and then had to change everything and go to Krygyzstan. So I am lucky that they found these things out now. And on the bright side, Turkmenistan only took ETAs so theoretically I can be placed anywhere. I just wish I could go to Turkmenistan. It seems like they are closing their borders to Americans more and more these days. It would be rather unfortunate to haves another closed country in area.
  10. Hey guys, I am sorry to hear about the NSs for Central Asia and excited to hear about those who got it. I talked to Cara this week. She said that the Turkmenistan program has been canceled for this year and next. She is not sure what to do about the applicants but maybe the IIE can reallocate the Turkmen money to other Central Asian programs to place us in. I dunno. So it seems my life is up in the air for a little bit longer. ))
  11. I am happy (? ) to hear that the Central Asian applicants aren't the only ones still waiting. It's been a long waiting game for all us. But I hope we all find out soon! It's almost May for goodness gracious!
  12. Since many of the acceptances from other programs were delayed, do you think that Central Asia will be delayed too?
  13. Hey, I am also on the C. Asian train (Turkmenistan). I know that ETAs must to do a D.C. orientation for most C. Asian countries. Is that in your research description on the Fulbright website?
  14. Azerbaijan Also, I heard back from the Central Asian representative...no idea when we'll receive news.
