  1. You are so not alone on the crazy incessant checking routine. Not only do I check my emails (and I have several) non-stop, I also turn up my ringing volume on my cellphone to the loudest. This is to prevent me missing any calls, if I am notified via phone. Gosh, I am crazy, mostly crazy about the silence and the wait.
  2. CONGRATS!!! Way to go... do you mind telling us which school is that? It might put some of our anxieties to rest.
  3. What the above said is kinda true. I was invited to 2 visiting weekends a few years ago and it was similar to a "mock" interview. One of them implicitly "quizzed" me on the literature to see if I am familiar with what I intend to study. Others want to know who I plan to study with and if I am able to talk about how my interest matched with the faculty members. It was a little intense but really fun. The grad students would take you out and visit the city etc. Just remember to do your homework first.
  4. I find it so weird that we are hearing so much conflicting information about GRE. Like some of the people who already responded, I've spoken to the graduate chair of a top 20 program and the first thing she mentioned was the importance of GRE. So go figure.
  5. is it just me that is feeling the heat? almost everyone that has posted so far have outstanding GRE scores! damn if i knew this was the competition, i shld have saved my money.
  6. I'm an international student that did his undergraduate in another country, finished his M.A is a not well ranked school and is doing his Ph.D in a ranked program. However, due to personal reasons, I applied to transfer to another program. U/GPA = 3.88 MA/GPA = 4 PhD/GPD = 3.96 GRE: V/630; Q/630; AW/5.5 Applied to Minnesota, Boulder, CUNY, UIC. Fingers and toes crossed!!!
