  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! <3 <3 <3 Been rootin' for you! And thanks so much for the kind wishes!
  2. Fellow Eastern Europe Candidates! Expect a slough of notifications soon, hopefully!!! I just got notified that I am a preferred candidate ( (P) in subject line From: Jermaine Jones) for a Serbia ETA. I started crying, and I'm still in shock. Email came at 6:23 my time (Mountain), so it appears they are sending things out later and later. All the more time to be gnawing at your nails refreshing your email, right? Anyway, it looks like Serbia, Montenegro, and Macedonia seem to send out at around the same time (so I am sure some of you can confirm this), if this is not the case this year, then it should be soon. Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide to help soothe the awful, awful pang of waiting. My fingers are crossed for all who haven't heard yet and my toes are crossed for those who are alternates. I was an alternate for a fellowship last year, and the agony is tremendous; doubly more for something as big and life-path-altering as Fulbright. *bakes cookies* *gives*
  3. Hey Balkan Purgatory Loiterers, I feel your pain! ETA Hopeful to Serbia here, thumb twiddling. Thanks for the info, MozartGirl!!! I recently talked to a friend of mine who just now is getting grant money promised way back in the Before Time that was then held up from the sequester. Here's hoping for a notificationful day
  4. We all know this but so, so, so, so many random political and social factors go into any sort of award decision-making-- even moreso something like Fulbright. I am crushed that someone with your qualifications and passion didn't make it, kbui, but (as hard and impossible-feeling as it may be) do not take this as a "my hard work doesn't pay off, so there's something wrong with me." You have a chest full of medals that many people on here (myself amongst them) couldn't dream to achieve, and you are clearly going to be a shining star wherever you go because of your disposition, work ethic, passion, and obvious acumen. Cry it out, feel ALL the feels, but know you have a community of people here who think you are the bomb, and remember to choose to listen to them rather than the anxieteers in your head. Many hugs and tonnes of gratitude for the work you've put in on making this thread a welcoming place to ex-lurkers like me.
  5. I was hoping to do elicitation and linguistic analysis of stories from the local Roma population in Serbia as well as help out at a support agency. I am dying to get involved with language revitalization efforts among the Roma, but I dunno if Serbia feels the same (((
  6. Very fair reminder. *returns and edits some posts* Shouldn't let my frustrations from work + anxiety here sabotage my career.
  7. Oh sorubo, I am so sorry. *bakes cookies* *gives*
  8. ^^^ forever that. @gnosisexchange that would be the worst. My university doesn't have an established Fulbright mentoring program like that, so the meat of his email was essentially: "all others have been rejected, we are relying on you for our honor." No pressure.
  9. That literally just happened to me. "Have you heard anything? They are sending out notifications." To be fair, I missed the first round of notifications by, like, two days, because I was misinformed as to the date range of the notification, so I was a week or two off.
  10. that feel when you are see your inbox "unread messages" number tick up, and it's not Fulbright. Damn you, Groupon. Damn you for all of the acid reflux you are giving me.
  11. Heart stop whenever Fulbright twitter account updates. "Why don't you try to do cool things like this?" "...I AM "
  12. Hi fellow anxiety-ridden Fulbright-waitees!! Longtime lurker, first-time poster feeling super insecure (WAT, everyone here is totally new to this feel). ETA Applicant to Serbia. The updated stats of 10/1 just drove me to angsty navel gazery. e-huggles to everyone. Drink chai and know you're all splendid.
