  1. I received an email stating a decision has been made. Then there is a link in the email that says click here to sign in and view your decision. However, when I sign in nothing is there. My co-worker received her email and when she signs in her applyyourself link there is a link on the bottom that opens up a pdf and it's your decision letter. I called admissions and they said there is a glitch and they're trying to figure it out. I asked if they can just tell me already. This is unbearable, a lot is riding on this. Best of luck to all.

At least you got an email! You will get your decision in no time. Best of luck to you!

  2. Called today and was told to send an email. The anticipation is driving me crazy!

I know what you mean I feel the same way. I actually called and left a vmail yesterday inquiring about my app status. Shortly after, I received a vmail saying that they were supposed to have all decisions out by the 25th, but because of unforeseen circumstances they were not able to meet the deadline. Now they don't really have a timeframe, but they hope to have all decisions in ASAP.... She also said that I should continue to check my email...  <_<

  3. Sadly, we are in the same situation. But, all hope is not lost. It seems as if they are doing exactly what they did last year. Last year's applicants waited for a very long time. So let's not be discouraged. I will try to keep this updated. I think it's nice to have some sort of idea of what is going on and also knowing that I'm not the only one going through this lol.

It's now the 27th and I have not received any email. I too called and inquired about when we should hear back. Supposedly there was going to be emails sent out at midnight on Friday, April 25th. Although I really didn't believe that I still kept on checking...best of luck to everyone :-)

  4. Be interested to see what folks have to say.  My school has a generalist concentration, but you can choose electives to concentrate in whichever area you choose.  I'm finding myself interested in the clinical side, but I would like to learn a  lot more.

See I wish that UCONN's MSW program had a general concentration! I chose to concentrate on Group Work. I've submitted my application months ago, but I am kind of wavering towards Casework now...

  5. I am planning on going the clinical route because I love working with clients on an individual level, but eventually I do want to get into macro policy work. I have heard that going clinical is probably the best option if you like both macro and micro, because you need the clinical skills as a base skill set regardless. However, please feel free to disagree with me! :)

I don't see anything to disagree with! Thank you so much for your comment!

  6. From my experiences and what I've gathered from other people in the field of social work and social services, there are certain aspects of our work that just can't be taught in class, through theory and publications but can only be gained through practice. With that said, I think that getting experience working with individuals one-on-one, whether it be through individual therapy, group settings, or case management, is the most educational and effective way to prepare you for whatever you see yourself doing in 5-10 years. If you want to get in the macro or policy side, you would have had experience working with the populations and people that you are creating a policy for-- do you see what I mean?

I hope this makes sense but I personally think that the value that a social worker gains working in the field, working in the trenches is something you can replace with a course or book.

Hope this helps you a little! Good luck.

Yes, I completely agree. If I get into this master's program I will be going into a completely different field. I need the experience along with the theory. I am a  "hands on" learner and I think that I will benefit greatly from my 560 hours of required field placement.

Thank you for your comment. Most people have expressed these same ideas. Clinical skills serve as a great foundation for future exploration in the field, whether it be more of an individual approach or group based.

  8. I applied to UCONN and they sent an email a couple of weeks ago regarding this topic. It stated that the financial aid office encouraged applicants to fill out the FAFSA despite the fact that it's due date had past. So give it a shot! Also, this is the first year that FAFSA considered me to be an "independent". I think that all graduate students are considered independents, but I could be wrong. The application also gave me the option to enter my parent's financial information. Hope this helps...

  9. Just curious, has anyone heard back from Denver, Columbia, or UCONN? Denver has told me that the decisions should be made soon! I am anxiously waiting, and it is almost unbearable!!!!! Also, does anyone know anyone that attends those schools? If I got in, it would be a tough call! Any opinion would help!

SADLY, I have yet to hear from UConn! Hopefully I hear something soon.
