  1. Hi, I have received my I20. While perusing it, I found that the I20 reads a wrong date relating to the end date of the program. I have started filling my DS - 160 form but haven't entered the SEVIS related information. Can you please let me know the following information: 1) Does the reissue of I20 document causes the change in the SEVIS ID or any other valuable information that I need to use in order to fill my DS 160 form, pay the VISA fee and take the VISA slot? If not, can I continue filling the DS 160 application and take the VISA slot around May 10 by the time the new I20 comes? 2) If the SEVIS ID changes upon the reissue of the new I20, I can ask the university to scan the new I20 and send me through email before mailing to my address? I was hoping that instead of waiting for another 10 days to get my new I20, I can complete filling my DS 160 application, pay the VISA fee and take a VISA interview slot in the first week of May because by that time I will get my new I20 via mail. Hoping for a quick reply on this one, Thanks
  2. Any other views? I have decided on option 1 that is "Leave the Company in mid April and then fill out the F1 VISA with an unemployed status'. Will this be a safe decision.
  3. Hello Guys, I am heading to UIUC Computer Science for Fall 2014. I need a F1 student VISA for the same. I am currently in a job and have served 5.5 years as of now .... My company has a 3 months notice period time but they are ready to leave me in 1 month .... in Mid April. Here are the options that I have. 1) Leave the Company in mid April and then fill out the F1 VISA with an unemployed status? Some of my friends in top tier universities like CMU and UIUC have already done like 'leaving the job before VISA interview' but they got the VISA easily. The only problem in this case will be that VISA officer can ask me that "How come you knew in advance that you will certainly get the VISA before hand and you left your job?' but chances of asking this question is very less as I am going to a Rank 5 program which is very reputed. 2) I should stay in the company till April end and fill the VISA from with a status of employed. Once the VISA form is filled and the Visa date is booked, leave the company in April end .... Give the VISA interview in the May. 3) Leave the company after getting VISA. The option will make me stay in the company for another 1 month at a minimum which I don't want. Please have your views. Its kind of urgent:)
  4. Go to Stony Brook. Cheap and the Best!! My friends got 120K + Salary upon graduation. Actually 4 friends, all got similar package ... Algo Professor Skiena is too good ..... You would complete the MS well under 20 Lakh ... even way less if you get some funding. Even I have a Stony Brook Admit, but I got a better offer. So, with a stone on my heart, I am leaving Stony Brook Admit for Fall 2014. I have admits from UIUC and CMU. But heading for UIUC computer science. I know, it would be 15 Lakh more expensive than what I might do at Stony Brook but yeah ... I am willing to pay 15 Lakh more for the huge difference in ranking of the CS department and the Brand name of UIUC.
  5. Any more suggestions? UIUC MCS vs Stony Brook University MS in CS is really the question now.
  6. Stanford, anyday ... no brainer!! How you can even compare ... its an IVY league university .... not many get a chance to study in Stanford and that too PhD..... This might be the best thing that has happened to you in your entire life ... A Stanford brand tag ....
  7. Go to Yale, its most prestigious, it has best ranking among the one mentioned. Moreover, you get to carry the name tag of Yale throughout your life.
  8. Going to TAMU MS is no brainer!! Cheapest Tuition and the Best University academically..... People die for this admit Thats a very good admit to have. You should be proud of yourself that you getting into TAMU justifies an awesome profile you must be having. If you had a fully funded PhD in UCSB then that would have been a completely different story. Even in the worst case, if you don't get PhD in TAMU, you will get a MS degree in as cheap as 20 Lakh or way less with some funding after sem 1. Living in Texas is dirt cheap as well. Go with TAMU !!
  9. I guess he did not get into CMU ... so that just came out of no where ... I would say go to Cornell and go to GaTech only if you are going for Research. Is it Cornell M Engg? or Phd?
  10. Hello Seniors, Please help me to decide between UIUC MCS, Stony Brook MS CS, UTD MS CS, Univ of Cincinnati MS CS Here is the situation. 1) UIUC MCS - Ranked 5 program. Good placement. Good professors. Good Reputation. Costly. I20 is 55K. 2) Stony Brook University MS CS - Decent University. Very good, Very Selective CS department. Dirt Cheap, in comparison with UIUC I20 is 35K. Chances of funding from 2nd sem. Department Ranked 40. 3) UTD MS CS - Department Ranked 70. Got in state tuition scholarship. I20 around 26K in my case. 4) univ of Cincinnati MS CS - Got 90% Scholarship for the first year. Department is ranked 112 but i guess its good research oriented university. My case: I don't have financial issue. I can arrange for UIUC but is it worth it? How about choosing Stony Brook University. Still I might land up in the same kind of paying job (stress on I might) I dont have any inclination for thesis/research. Also, I have plans for MBA after 5 to 7 years of completion of MS. Will the name of UIUC increase my chances in getting into top MBA school? Please help!! Thanks in Anticipation
