Hi princessmommy25. I got a BA in Mass Comm and Master of Education(higher education) as well!!!! I've worked in a voice lab for a few years before I decided to switch to SLP. I got into 5 schools this year and all those programs I applied to this year welcome out-of-field students. They are usually 2.5 - 3 years programs. One of them (California State University East Bay) doesn't' require GRE (though I did take it twice and got a good score). If you think you GPA is not good enough, you may choose to do a postbac/2nd bachelor's degree before applying to any graduate programs. I did some SLP prerequisites at Utah State University (but not a 2nd bachelor's degree) and I think they really helped! You can message me if you need more advice! Good luck !

HELP! CAL STATE EAST BAY or SAN JOSE STATE?
pandasa replied to shir ley's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I contacted the department and confirmed that their students in the extended program are guaranteed all required SLP undergrad classes. I guess maybe they have changed registration policy. Or it maybe only a problem with getting other undergrad classes (ASHA required science courses), but you can always get those courses elsewhere. -
Thanks @Chandru1 @Islp. I contacted the department and confirmed that their students in the extended program are guaranteed all required SLP undergrad classes, so we will not have to worry about it taking longer. I accepted the offer today! So excited!

Thanks so much @Islp !! OMG 5 years! That's really long! Did you also apply to their EM program? Have you talked to the department or students there? It's hard for me to get enough information about the school and program. But I really want to move to California and work there after graduation. Thanks @Chandru1. So they mentioned this "priority problem" in their info session? Is that why you didn't apply to their program? Did they say anything about their clinical placement?
-
Does anybody know anything about Cal State East Bay's program? I just got into its extended program today. It says the program takes 3.5-4 years!! I can't find enough information about its clinical placement and curriculum...I'm not from California and I know it's not easy to get into schools in CA, but a 4-year program seems too long.... Greatly appreciated if anyone could give me some input. Thanks in advance!!

Congrats to you all! I also applied to U of A, but I haven't heard anything from them since I submitted my application. I wonder if you got some notice or email from them after the department received your application? I don't know if I should email them to ask my application status....I keep checking the application webpage but the status never changes....

@Chandru1 That's good to know CBEST is easy. I probably can do that after my GRE. @Bapple Thanks!!That really helps!! yeah I'm actually thinking about doing this in 3 terms, but still pretty intense. I heard that Utah online is great. well the tuition is not cheap though.....Seems that I should make my decision before August -

@LAmeizi Thanks so much! Are you major in SLP? or did your postbac somewhere? Actually I'm now also thinking about quitting my job and start full time postbac/2nd bachelor online at Utah State this fall. But I'm not sure if it's possible to complete the whole program within one year and start grad school next fall. @Chandru1 Are you going to do postbac this year? I checked SJSU as well, but they require CBEST not GRE, is it easier? I've never heard about CBEST before..... -

Thanks Chandru1 ! Will you consider some online postbac programs? or taking some prerequisite courses online before you apply? I'm thinking about doing some of those prerequisites online this Fall, but I guess I can only do 1 or 2 courses since I have to work full time. but I'm not sure if it helps.... Seems like GPA in US system is really high!I saw most of your signatures with GPA like 3.8,3.9! In my system, I got like only 3.4 but I was awarded first-class honor. Don't know if they evaluate that in the same way ...I'm getting super nervous right now Anyway, good luck on your GRE ! -

pandasa replied to LAmeizi's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hello! I'm new here, out of field, I'm not a CA resident, not living in US right now (I guess I should be categorized as an international student), but I really wanna get this degree in CA. I'm applying to extended master's programs or programs without prerequisites. My choices right now are University of Pacific, SDSU and CSUEB. I'm still looking into other schools and programs, not limited to CA(but schools in CA are my top choices). I know those schools in CA are always super competitive. I did my GRE last year but not good enough, so I'm gonna do it again this Aug. This is my first time applying SLP programs. so nervous!!!Hope I can get into one of them!
