SJSU and CSUEB are just examples of school that accept students coming from different backgrounds. You don't have to take pre-reqs. Do volunteering, shadow someone and get their letter of recommendation. How about asking these SLP from your work? CSUEB doesn't require GRE. I have a friend who graduated in Theater arts and worked as an admin and got acceopted. Your plans seem like you have a great letter of intent to write!!! Talk about your volunteering experience with the SLP who are working with the actors. Tell them you want to do that. Your GPA is great. My friend had a 3.8. I guess they will really appreciate your profile. It is diverse, it fits the profession and you are on top of your game on your current career. I come from a Language background and do not have CSD background and I got accepted. Like you, I am on top of my game on my current career, and they appreciate this determination and maturity. I don't recommend Oakland other than Oakland Hills. Oakland is worse than Hayward.

Look into San Ramon as well.

I feel so grateful to be going to CSUEB because of its focus. I wanted to work with adults in a hospital setting. But I had a few concerns about the classes and Pandasa helped me. They guarantee us classes. I liked the program better at CSUEB and it became my favorite. I heard it is easier to get clinical placement in hospital settings. Having said that, I have concerns about Hayward but San Jose has criminalities as well in the Downtown area, and Hayward is in a safest part of the town, up the hills. I am a professional, and I love making friends, but a commuter school like CSUEB is fine by me as well. We can make friends still. I have a friend that didn't even try CSUEB but honestly, she scared me more than what it was needed My favorite was CSUEB, and I ended up manifesting an acceptance at my dearest future school CSUEB and a rejection at SJSU. Had I been accepted to San Jose, I would have chosen CSUEB. Also, SJSU is a mess. They didn't let me know until I sent an email to the coordinator saying the location where (Silicon Valley) the school is has a culture of being corteous to give an answer, regardless of it being a yes or a no. A few minutes later, I got a rejection. THAT WAS APRIL 17!!! I called several times, but I never got an answer or call back about their receiving my application. Emails were useless. Imagine being a student there and needing their support, and receiving none. Yep, I pretty much manifested my rejection there. I was turned off by it. Then, Pandasa helped me find out we are guaranteed courses. Yeah, a bit concerned about driving to Hayward, but I got my windows tinted and I'm ready to go. CSUEB administration was always there for me. They promptly replied. I believe maturity and being present is very important to me when choosing a school, and I'm going to CSUEB!!! Same here, nothing from CSUEB yet. I plan to email with questions about dates on Wednesday, but they did mention they'll be in touch for advising "in the next few weeks" in the email. I can assume end of May.

I'd say look into Pleasant Hill or Walnut Creek. Spend a little more for safety. It helps. Hayward has a lot of crime. Campus is fine, however. I'll certainly join the group later. My work cannot know yet.

It is 78 units and requires the completion of the M.S. degree, EPSY 5021 Introduction to Educating all Students in Diverse Classrooms (4), and fulfillment of the State of California's Basic Skills Requirement. Hi again! Yes, 5 years is the maximum you can be at the program. For the EM, 3 and a half to four is what they say, and you need extra credits on top of this time estimate to finish credentials (which can be tight). I have lived in the area for 9 years. I heard about the program from friends who know about it and drove by when they were close. Some friends didn't apply there, only to SJSU. If we both decide to go here, we will study together. I really want to stay local, since this is home for me (and I haven't heard from SJSU yet). You can always move to California after your program. Don't let this be your decision-factor. It's easy to relocate for employment opportunities, since the area has shortage of professionals. But of course, only you know what's best for yourself. I agree with Chandru, this area has a lot of opportunities for public schools. However, not a lot for hospitals for CFY. It usually comes down to the type of focus. MEd. will focus on school system and usually people have to catch up with a few credits if they want to practice in another environment. But all of them will give you the capacity. I wouldn't really think this was a big differential for me in my decision, however. Any program will give you the ability to work in all settings. It's just the focus that changes a bit. Some have more credits and focus in aphasia, others in Autism...
