  1. Hello folks, I'm really in a swaying among three PhD programs. Indeed I only got offer from Berlin and UMich, it's possible that I will be admitted by Cornell too, but since the deadline is close, let me ask assuming Cornell also admit me... Hope they will I'm an undergraduate studying mathematics in Germany. For my graduate study, I want to do something applied and my current interests are optimization theory and stochastic process. In the future job, I'm more towards the industry like Logistics, Telecommunication, Finance .... where I can apply what I learned. Now I will introduce a bit about the three programs. 1. (Applied) Math @ Berlin Mathematical School It's a program started in 2006, which is in the Excellence Initiative of Germany. It is a joint department of 3 major universities in Berlin: Technical University Berlin, Humboldt University, Free University. All the resources in Berlin can be used by students of BMS and I will get my PhD degree from one of the three schools according to my choice. The advantages of this program are: I can choose any research topics with any professors in any research institutes in Berlin if both of us agree; life in Berlin is awesome, and the public transportation of Germany(Europe) is superb; there are strong groups of optimization theory and stochastic with connection with industry of Germany. For pragmatic point of view, the life in Europe is really good, and research pressure is certainly lower than in US. Also, it's easy to get a good job in Germany compared with in US according to my own experience and some experiences of my friends in US. 2. Industrial and Operations Engineering @ UMich Good school with high ranking, strong connection with industry as well, and the department is usually ranked as top 10 IEOR programs in US. 3. Applied Math @ Cornell Very interdisciplinary department, with faculties from more than 10 different departments. IVY school with applied math ranked top 3 in US. Ithaca is beautiful, but maybe it's inconvenient for me who has stayed in Germany for 3 years. Really hope to hear from you guys... Thanks a lot for your advice.
