  1. Congrats @kangaroomr and @gaattc! That is wonderful news! Speculation ahead: The only person I know IRL who heard back (for the joint program with Emory) was nominated for a fellowship, and also didn't hear back until the second or third wave just a few days ago. GT/Emory definitely staggers invites -- we have admits from at least two different waves in this thread (sonnelala and bmeupscotty), and in previous years a few applicants weren't accepted until they received an automated email to check the website (in February). In short, I imagine there are more offers still to come.
  2. Also applied to USC and have heard nothing. Please keep us posted if anyone contacts you!
  3. Hello dontor, The invites I'm aware of went out early morning yesterday (5-6 EST). DM for research area or additional details. Best wishes to all!
  4. Hello all, Does anybody have experience withdrawing applications? Going into the admissions cycle, I didn't have a good sense of my position in the field and may have over-applied as a result. I'd like to withdraw a few of my remaining applications at this time in order to pass priority to other applicants. What would be the most polite way of doing this/the most appropriate channel to convey my intent? Or would this be considered poor form/is it more appropriate to allow the programs to make a decision first and only turn down the offer afterward? This is for a STEM field, and most of the programs I applied to are rotation-based, so I haven't had interactions with many PIs yet. Secondarily, I am also curious: has either (i) a bad interview or (ii) turning down an admission offer at an institution been known to negatively affect postdoc/TT chances at that institution down the line? I get the sense I'm overthinking this, but I appreciate any feedback.
  5. There are no safety schools. Even if you're applying with a highly competitive background, it won't count for much if all your experience is computational and the Department is looking to recruit students who can work a wet lab, or if the faculty don't find the theme or direction of your research compelling. Departmental fit will be more important in most cases -- this has been repeated here ad nauseam. Best wishes to all!
  6. Hello, all. I was admitted into 2 partially funded clinical psychology PhD programs that I don't see myself being very happy at. I was also admitted to the MA program at Columbia University in clinical psychology. I applied this year with a heavy neuroscience background, with very minimal traditional psychological research experience. I think I'd have a shot if I took advantage of the opportunities at Columbia, and perhaps gain admission for fall 2015 at fully funded schools (in which case the increased amount of debt would be canceled out). Questions: For those of you who did the MA in clinical psychology at Columbia (or elsewhere), did you apply the same year you were in your masters? Also, what kind of opportunities did you take advantage of? Do you believe it was a valuable experience? What would you do in my situation? Finally, where did you and your classmates end up going (i.e., were they fully funded programs)? Feel free to message me as well. Thank you very much. I only have 2 days to make this decision :/
