  5. Hello! I am interested in School Psych, too! I followed the thread from last year and am looking forward to discussing topics this go-around. I am applying to 3 PhD programs, and 3 EdS programs. I currently have my MSW and work in a Therapeutic Day School in Chicago, which has led me to the decision of going back to school for (hopefully) my PhD in School Psych. Can anyone shed some light on graduate funding. I am a little confused on the whole process. I have read all of the websites for the schools I am applying, which discuss the types of aid and assistantships, but there isn't a ton of info on how to apply or requirements. I'm wondering if this is because assistantship info isn't available until after a student is accepted? Any info about this is much appreciated! Thank you!

  7. Do personal statements/goal statements need to be double spaced? Most of the schools I am applying to indicate what they would like for me to write about and a page limit (3 pages). I have a great paper written, but it is 4 pages double spaced. When I single space it, it is 2! Thoughts? Thanks!!
  8. Is anyone emailing POIs? If so, any tips or guidance about this is welcome! Thanks!!
  9. There is a book I used during my internship that was helpful in learning more about age appropriate character ed activities. It is called Character Education: Ideas and Activities for the Classroom by Carson-Dellosa Publishing Company. I was able to use many of the activities as a foundation for ideas, and then tailored the activities to meet each classroom's needs. I also did some activities in small group and individual settings. I recommend choosing a topic and defining it in a way that elementary students can understand, through concrete examples and then doing related activities. It may also be helpful to find children's books related to the topic that you can read to the class as an example of the behavior they will be learning about. Hope this helps!
  10. iphi and ipsych, thank you both for responding!! The information is very helpful . I did go onto the websites of schools I am interested and was able to find out more about research interests of faculty members. Also, I will take a look at some other threads for financial info. Thanks!
  11. Hey all, I am looking to apply in Fall 2015. I have a few questions: 1. What is the best way to find out information and research interests of potential POIs? 2. Do you find out about possible funding/apply for funding before, during or after you complete the PhD application? Thank you!!
  12. What I meant to say was: schpsy92, thank you so much!

  14. Hello all! I have been following this thread for awhile. However, I am not applying to school until Fall 2015. First off, congratulations to all of you on your wonderful accomplishment of being accepted to School Psych programs! I have a question, and am hoping someone will be able to provide some guidance. I am interested in both PhD and EdS School Psych programs. I currently have my Masters in Social Work and have been in the field for 4 years working in a therapeutic day school in Chicago. I feel as though I am a strong candidate for the EdS track due to my experience. However, I am also interested in PhD programs, but lack research experience and my understanding is that PhD programs are very competitive for admittance. There are several schools I am looking at to apply, some only have EdS and some have both EdS and PhD. My question is: is it possible to apply to both an EdS and PhD program at the same school? Have any of you done that or heard about that? I know I have seen that some people have applied to both EdS and PhD programs, but no one has mentioned applying to those programs within the same school. There is one school in particular that offers both EdS and PhD and while I would be thrilled to be admitted into PhD, I am not sure if it will be possible due to no research experience. Therefore, I would be very happy to be admitted into their EdS program. If anyone has any thoughts or guidance, that would be much appreciated! I sent an email over to an adviser that I have met with at the school and posed the same question to him, but have not heard back. I am hoping my question isn't too off the wall Thanks in advance!!
