  1. Thanks Mozartgirl! You are so sweet and supportive. Yeah I've been thinking of some Plan Bs and Cs but didn't want to do too much prep on them, knowing I might get the Fulbright (and having to prep for that)... at least now I know the results, and can move forward in another direction. I've been to Tajikistan before, which is one of the reasons I am so sad... I miss it so much! I had promised my friends and host families that I would return. I can't be breaking my promises now, can I.... I'll just have to return another way / time. :-) I am persistent, if anything.
  2. TeraFirma, Thank you so much for your kind words and wishes. I was also happy to see you here in the forum, and also envisioned meeting you in Tajikistan! I am slowly and sadly letting people know about the NS, I dislike that it's not just my disappointment but also my friends', family's, and professors'. I have not yet informed my affiliate in Tajikistan, nor my former host families in Tajikistan (they will be as heartbroken as I am, I miss them so much). I am VERY happy for you - have you been to Tajikistan before? You will love it! If you would like any advice on living there, let me know. Congratulations!
  3. NS for Tajikistan full research. The subject line did not include any letters, just "Fulbright U.S. Student Program Notification." Well, that makes my summer a lot less busy... I am incredibly sad, but I have prepared myself for it. Now to rearrange plans, change proposals, etc. Ugh I don't want to give the news to my professors and family... they were really excited for me when I got recommended. It was great to be a part of this community forum. Good luck to those who are still waiting to hear results, and for the alternates!
  4. Another day gone by... it wasn't Central Asia's day...
  5. They encourage you to have your own health insurance, as the health & accident benfits they offer is not the same as "health insurance": The U.S. Department of State has established health and accident benefits for all Fulbright Fellows. The Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE) is a basic policy and as stated in the U.S. Fellows Orientation Handbook, it is not a substitute for your private health benefits coverage. It is not intended to cover long-term health care and has limitations in coverage. For this reason, you are encouraged to maintain your current policy or to obtain comprehensive health insurance coverage to offset the cost of major medical contingencies that may occur when you are abroad, to cover you if you travel outside of the host country, and/or to provide you with immediate coverage when you return to the U.S. Here is the link for this information: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/current-fulbrighters/health-benefits-summary
  6. OH no! I am so sorry Hina! I was rooting for you. I am glad that you will re-apply while you enjoy your current job and enjoy the comfort of (temporary) locational stability for a moment (it's a luxury in a way). Bangladesh - it's the same Fulbright region as Central Asia, so I wonder if TerraFirma, Kj, and I will be notified today...
  7. Thanks Mozartgirl53! In a strange way, the wait is now less intense... I have been in high-expectation mode for so long that it (the anxiety) has worn away. I'm able to focus on work now (thank goodness, I have over 20 papers to grade today) and I think I will actually be surprised if/when I DO receive the notification email. Murphy's Law - now that I'm not constantly refreshing this forum page and my email, I will get notification soon...
  8. I'm wIth you on this... I was about to leave the house on Friday when new status posts appeared for Armenia and China (and I was very sad to see NS for Anahid), I had to pry myself off the computer to leave (I don't have a smartphone and thus can't check my email when away). Seeing as Tajikistan and the rest of Central Asia found out on April 29 last year, I was prepared to wait until next week, but the last-minute posts so late on Friday really got me excited/nervous. I was quite a sight when I received a letter from IIE last week. Thin envelope, just one page... my hands trembled when I opened it. However, it was informing me that I did not receive a Boren Fellowship, which I already knew via email the previous week. Never have I been so relieved to read a rejection letter!
  9. I believe it's the Fulbright Foreign Student program that has more grants than applicants (they need more Ukrainian nationals to apply before the May 16 deadline); HOWEVER it DOES imply that the Fulbright program is staying in Ukraine, and thus it is great news for Ukraine hopefuls!
  10. Ahhh thank you so much Kj002. I just looked on the website and now realize that the D.C. orientation is listed for ETA but not for the Full Research/Study for Tajikistan. I appreciate the advice. It is nice to go from feeling disheartened back to just patiently waiting. It seems that those of us who applied to Central Asian countries will most likely wait until the end of this month, if we go by prior years' notification dates.
  11. Lurker here, finally joining - the wait is intense. I am also awaiting notification for a Full Research/Study grant to Tajikistan. I did NOT receive a save-the-date email... auspicious sign for you, ominous sign for me I think. When did you receive the email? Did you also have an interview with the US Embassy in Tajikistan in late February?
