The Propulsion & Energy Research Laboratory at the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Old Dominion University is currently seeking two exceptional doctoral candidates for state of the art research opportunities (Graduate Research Assistantships) in reacting and non-reacting turbulent flows for advance aero-propulsion and combustion energy conversion systems. Job Description:
The research will focus understanding the fundamental interactions between fluid and flame dynamics for multi-phase turbulent reacting flows, clean combustion strategies and alternative renewable biofuels through experimental research and physics-based reduced order models.
Required:
Candidates must have the following in order to be considered for this position:
A recent M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
A strong background and training in thermal sciences, fluid mechanics, and combustion sciences
A demonstrated accomplishment in experimental and numerical research
A working style demonstrating initiative and willingness to take on individual responsibility
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
The ability to work effectively with others
Desired:
Experience with advanced laser-based optical diagnostics (PIV/PLIF) and experience with combustion research.
