  3. To all the grant winners in the group....Have any of you received more information about the actual amount of funding you will receive? visa information? etc? When would the Fulbright offices typically send that information out?
  4. I received the same email 24 hours after I submitted my forms online. I think we both received clearance if they emailed us back.
  5. Thank you very much olioliwoo!!!! I can't stop myself from dancing along with the minions!
  6. Thank you kindly!!! I have really started to take a liking to these GIFs. I think your gif reflects our excitement and joy properly!
  7. Congrats!!! Can't wait to meet you in person! Thank you very much! The wait was totally worth it! Thank you so much!! I can breath easy now
  8. Just found out about Ukraine...................I have been granted a full research scholarship for Ukraine 2014-2015!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Hello Irockafe! Pleasure to hear from you.......That seems like such an interesting project!!! The video was beautiful! Since you would be stationed in Kyiv, Do you think that will affect you? There have been 2 shootings in Kyiv this past week and it has been confirmed that the people involved were from the eastern regions. I agree with you though, having fulbright is only beneficial to this pro-Western government and shows the American support for Ukraine through educational programs such as Fulbright. I have a gut feeling we will find out Friday, since last years applicant found out on May 2nd. Well, at least I hope we find out between now and then. I like your optimism though!! I will try and channel your positive attitude for myself so we can have more good vibes flowing to Ukraine.
  10. What is a gif? I have never heard of that abbreviation/acronym before.
  11. ahhh congratulations!!!!! I hope your boyfriend receives good news from Ukraine! What does he plan to do in Ukraine? I like the Hunger Games reference!
  12. am403 !!!!!!! I just read your post!!!! Thank you so much for calling! I am breathing a bit easier now! ONWARD!!!!!!
  13. am403, Thank you kindly for the kind words My university is indeed in Western Ukraine, Lviv to be exact and it is very safe there (as is the Western part of Ukraine as you put it). I really hope you win your 10$ !!!!! hopefully we both would benefit form your prediction. In regards to the Fulbright tweet, I think it is referring to Ukrainian applicants applying to study in abroad. But someone else in previous posts said that if they are not closing the Fulbright foreign student program for Ukrainians, that leads us to believe the program is still open. Once again, thank you for the kind words. I am currently working for 3 foreign institutions on the current crisis by doing research for them. Did you apply for Ukraine as well??
  14. Mozartgirl, you are so incredibly correct to bring this up. We are very blessed indeed to not have to worry about the uncertainty and fear that the Ukrainian people are currently waking up every day too. I too believe that standing with the Ukrainian people is important and Fulbright is the perfect program for such relations to continue. Considering my research is to study the EU/Ukraine relations, I find that this time in Ukraine is perfect for me to conduct my research to learn more about how the world (EU) interacts with Ukraine. GnosisExchange, I agree with you. I have many friends and family in Ukraine who have been very negatively impacted by everything that is going on. It pains me to have family and friends who are living in such unstable times, all the while I am comfortably living in America waiting to graduate from undergrad. I do not think you are being a debbie downer, you are being a realist. If the program is cancelled, idealistically, I would love for the winning Ukraine applicants to be relocated to another country (if that is at all possible). But I think you are correct in one aspect for sure. How good would the research be if it is meant to be done in Ukraine and not another country. Luckily my research topic is a bit flexible when it comes to where I would want to do my research. But I feel like most people are specifically geared to research in Ukraine to learn about Ukraine.
  15. GnosisExchange, thank you for your kind words! My back up plan is to go to graduate school in Bremen, Germany to receive a Masters in International Relations: global governance and social theory. The university, Jacobs, has been very kind to me in understanding my state of limbo in regards to Fulbright and they have pledged to work with me in any capacity that they can. olioliwoo, I am not sure if that is allowed. If that is at all possible, I would love to go to Poland and still be close to Ukraine to do my research. I wouldn't mind going to Brussels to study/work/research with EU MPs to do my research (that would be a home run!!) Thank you very much sirskipsalot! I too am hoping that if Ukraine closes its program, then I would be able to research in another country/location. I am dying to know if I even won the grant. But you are correct, I will still put the grant information on my CV/resume if I win or become an alternate even if the program closes. during my Junior year of undergrad (last year), I was an alternate for the Boren Award and if fulbright does not come through, I may end up applying for that award all over again and use it to do my research.
  16. The mayor of the Eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv just this morning was shot by unknown gunmen. He is alive, but barely......................I fear Ukraine will be officially cancelled after this tragic event.
  17. That is good to hear that they have yet to pull out the current fulbrighters! I really hope Venezuela doesn't shut down either. All of these uprisings this year has been truly fascinating (from a scholarly perspective/very sad from a human point of view).
  18. Ahhhh yes, I actually agree with you now that I look at it with a clear head. I hope you are correct, that this does imply Fulbright is staying in and with Ukraine for the time being.
  19. She couldn't comment on that since she wasn't certain. She just knows that the State Department is being very cautious about sending Americans to Ukraine en masse. She also has no idea when Ukraine will make its decision on winning applicants. Last years winner did not find out until 5.2.13. So hopefully all the eurasian applicants find out by next Friday, 5.2.14, the latest. When I spoke with her, I did get the sense that she was holding things back from me. But I can completely understand, given the current situation.
  20. You just made my day posting this!!!! thank you!! I really hope they let send out information soon ))
  21. Mozartgirl 53, I have a contact in the State Department and this person has told me that they aren't letting Americans fly into the capitol city Kyiv because Russia may take that as a provocative move (she just told me this today in a phone conversation and the bit about the peace core volunteers was also confirmed by this person 2 or 3 days ago when we last spoke). But Americans are still allowed in the Western parts of Ukraine, which is where my host University is located. My guess (and fear) is that the program will be cancelled since so many kidnappings and killings are happening in the eastern parts of Ukraine. I really really hope this opportunity will not be squandered due to geopolitics because I do not want to be like one of those olympians during the Carter era. If they do decide to cancel, I hope they tell the winners how they did and will defer their grants to a safer time (or even relocating them because that would be pretty awesome in of itself!!!!).
  22. So the State Department ordered another travel warning to Ukraine and there was talk that the peace core volunteers would return to Ukraine. That is false, the peace core volunteers will not be entering Ukraine for a while. If Ukraine does end up canceling the program, when would we find out? Would they place us somewhere else if we win? Could they defer the Fulbright grant to a safer time? I am sick to my stomach about this. I really hope they make some announcements about Eurasia today!!!!!1
  23. Sonatina.....Did she mention the rest of eurasia or just Russia in her response to your email??
  24. I hope Ukraine and Russia stay operable as well!! It would be such a shame if a geopolitical crisis ended a fantastic oppurtunity for many applicants. Would fulbright defer the winners in case the program is closed down to another year/safer time period??
  25. Agreed!!!!! Since I was recommended in January, I havent slept, have started eating poorly.....this is very difficult for the body and mind!!
