I'm 24. Finished undergrad at 21. I'm always jealous of older candidates because they've done more but I seem to have gotten into some good schools. Quality not quantity, I guess.
-
Anxious wait. Getting a phone call must be terrifying!
-
I think it's down to 2 things: 1. My transcripts may have reached late. American SIS is one of the only schools I applied to that requires your undergrad uni to send over official hardcopy transcripts. As mine was in England and I only started my app and notified my uni a few days befor deadline day, my app may have been held as 'incomplete' by the time aid deadlines passed. I sent my softcopy transcripts way before the deadline but rules are rules. 2. I may not have had as good a 'fit' with the school as other applicants. With Yale, I knew alums well and got a great recco letter from a very well known alum from my country. With Tufts the program director was a friend of a friend and I was able to speak to him over the phone to understand the DNA of the school and where I fit. I'm a bit surprised about not getting any aid from American given my profile but I'm sure they have their reasons.

Got into SAIS Bologna without funding. Didn't get IDEV.

Fletcher Admits - Fall 2015!

Completely agree with this. Be up front, frank and polite with them. That's what I'm going to do. "I love your school and I'm grateful for the 30% scholarship, but I am still short by $_____. I have been offered a 50% scholarship by XYZ university. If you would be willing to exceed that and narrow the gap between my finances and the cost of attendance, I would be much more likely accept your offer" - or something along those lines. -
I think it depends what your employment prospects are after you graduate. If you're a US/EU citizen and you can get a nice dollar or euro paying salary back home without too much hassle, then going into debt isn't an issue. I wouldn't go into more than $20k debt, personally, since my home country is India and even though I don't plan to return afterwards, paying off an $80,000 debt in a Rupee/Asian salary may not work. My general thumb rule through my masters has been to not go into debt under any circumstances since employment isn't "guaranteed" to the same extent as an MBA. But with 50% from Yale, I'm only short of funding my living costs over 2 years and going into debt is looking tempting.

Accepted. But no mention of funding. I wish universities came out and told you up front that you haven't been selected for funding. We're adults. We can handle it.

Fletcher Admits - Fall 2015!
Bombaygunner replied to MsFutureDiplomat's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Got into MIB (not MALD) with $30,000 a year funding "Emerging Markets Scholarship". Delighted. MIB is more expensive than MALD but this is still more than 50% scholarship. Time to make some tough decisions! -
Got it with 50% tuition scholarship It's 2:43am in India and I don't think I'll be able to sleep for another 6 months. So many long nights of hard work, studying for GREs and writing essays and it's paid off. Good luck to everyone else. Considering I didn't get Princeton and Columbia didn't offer me any aid, I think this might be the one. Waiting to hear from SAIS tomorrow.
-
First rejection. Getting into SIPA yesterday softened the blow and put things into perspective. WWS is pretty much everyone's dream school and they fund everyone they take. Oh well. I learned a lot about myself in writing the app. Congrats to everyone who got in! Go change the world!
-
Wow, they are already announcing admissions? I got an email from them yesterday saying "Financial Aid Still Available for Penn State MIA Degree". I didn't apply and I don't plan to. I guess they got my email ID from the ETS.
-
Got in. The letter says they will let us know about "possible sources of financial aid" in a few weeks. I guess this means I haven't been awarded funding and they will try to sort me out with external aid? I think no matter what happens, it's good to know you're Ivy League material.
-
I wouldn't worry. I think they only interview us dastardly international students. Or just the SAIS Bologna folks. Something like that.

Application update email from Fletcher
Bombaygunner replied to ayir's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I got a similar email. I'm not sure how much to read into it other than simply acknowledging that it's a nice gesture. Better than a "Dear Applicant, here are some events on campus that you will probably not go to" -
Has anyone else has their interview yet? I've got mine on Friday. From what I gather, they want to see how you "think" rather than simply what you "know".

Switch from media to IR acceptable?
Bombaygunner replied to Vedamup's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Sorry for the delayed response. I've applied to SAIS, SIPA, WWS, GWU Elliott, Yale Jackson, Fletcher and American SIS. And you? -
On the admission results section of gradcafe, one SIPA admit said they got "MPA 70k fellowship over two years". Let's hope for more offers like that! http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=SIPA&t=a&o=&pp=25

"One wonders why the school has two International Relations program? One you need the GRE to get in and the other you don't?" Yep, that's the most baffling thing. Has anyone reached out to admissions folks at NYU to clear this up? The website and the ambiguity turned me off applying, even though a good school in NY would seem like a perfect fit for most IR aspirants.
-
Thanks mate. Compared to the average intake at WWS, my GRE scores are beloe average so I would need a miracle to get in. Hopefully we finish the (application) season strong - like Arsenal

Fletcher Admits - Fall 2015!
Bombaygunner replied to MsFutureDiplomat's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I've applied to the MIB rather than the MALD. Had a series of discussions with the Dean of Business who convinced me to apply. Apparently the scholarship pools for MIB and MALD are different and MIB students get more - but I can't confirm this. Good luck to everyone! -
Ha! I actually brought this up as an area of improvement during that feedback survey they ask you to do.
