  1. I have no idea about Cronkhite, but I spent my first year of grad school at Perkins. Perkins is fine. It's the typical dorm with rooms down the hall (up to 40?50? rooms per floor), two common kitchens, a common space in some floors (none on the 4th), and common bathroom. Pros : It's a nice place to meet a lot of different people, from different fields. It's especially helpful if you haven't lived in Cambridge/Boston before and you don't have your own group of friends yet. You won't be lonely. No need to buy furniture etc. The first year is hectic so unless you can move here at least a month in advance to buy furniture and settle in, it's nice to have a furnished place, and you can slowly adjust to grad school life without worrying about extra house-related stuff. The rooms are actually pretty decent. The large rooms are beautiful and the small room really isn't that small. Cons : Noise travels. a LOT. Grad students are pretty good at keeping quiet hours (it's not like there is crazy partying every night...) but you can really hear everything that happens in the hall... so if you're a light sleeper or you really want quiet... Meal plan: you have to have a meal plan if you live in Perkins. It's not that cheap, and it's not that good. (It's not too bad either, it's *fine*, but you could get better food for less at the square) Plus there is only one dining hall for grad student so if you don't work on campus (ie, med school, kennedy school, school of public health...etc) it's not always convenient and you end up wasting a lot of unused meals. I do recommend spending the first year in the dorms if you are an international student, or moving from a completely different place, just so that you get to meet friends and you can slowly settle in. I found a really good group of diverse friends at the dorm and I later moved in with a couple of them, and I wouldn't trade my first year there for the world. But! a year was enough, if you know what i mean
  2. u must have been one of the few GCDs among the many many IIDs during the recruitment weekend lol Nice to see u in the grad cafe !! Have u sent ur official acceptance yet?
  3. I'm in the BPH program - immunology and infectious diseases ! and very excited about the program too! What about you?
  4. I'll be at the School of Public Health too! Just got my acceptance package today
  5. is done with this process ! :) good luck everyone :)

  6. Although I would be happy to attend any of the seven or so schools I have applied to, there is this one program I really really really really want to attend. A few weeks ago, I got an interview invitation and I will be visiting the place next week. Needless to say, I am super excited (esp. since it's one of the only two schools that have actually acknowledged my existence so far;)) The problem is, although I know there's still a chance I could be rejected after the interview, I can't help myself planning my future revolving around the program. I've already checked housing conditions, the living standard of the place, what VISA to get, checked the area around the school, attractions of the city etc. etc. I like everything I see but I'm afraid I will be more than heartbroken if, god forbid, I am NOT accepted.... Anybody else getting way to hopeful?
  7. Congrats MarA !! that must feel great! is anybody applying to the BPH (Biological Sciences in Public Health) program at Harvard? anyone going to the Feb 11-12 interview?
  8. I applied to 7 grad schools and in one of them I went with the 'ever since I was little' statement - well, that school has been the first and so far only school that has rejected me ....I got interview invites from other schools of similar 'level', so maybe there is truth in that these SOPs get thrown out right away.
  9. That is just horrible!! I was actually afraid of that when one of the adcom of THE dream school called me to say I was invited for an interview and that an email would follow - and the email didn't come for what seemed like forever- it later turned out that they had mistyped my email address but during those three days I had the worst nightmares! I seriously feel for you two.snaps.up. you should sue them for emotional trauma neways back to the mass email issue. I rather have one that no news.... one of my dream schools is apparently sending invites to pple but I only got a mass email saying they are currently under review and that the decisions will be made in February or March... so i'm hoping.... maybe the department I applied to really does review in February or March...
  10. arg~ I'm jealous of so many people here! I always wanted some artistic or musical talent and synaesthesia - ever since I heard about it in one of the psychology classes I took.. The only thing I can think of about my uniqueness is that I am an Asian who grew up in Africa (mauritania), received a European (French) Education and now wishes to study in America ! (I think I actually used this sentence in one of my essays lol)
  11. Hey~ I just checked ur message :)

R u applying for Fall 2010? I just got my first interview invite and I'm thrilled n terrifed at the same time lol

Oh an about my stats, a little bit of hard work and a LOT of luck i guess lol

  12. Tell me about it - I check my mail even when I know it's like 4 am in the States becuz of the time difference - and every time my heart skips a beat
  13. I actually got an email the same day - As you said they sent an email saying that my application was successfully submitted, and then another right after, titled "Confirmation of Receipt of the Harvard Application" is that it, or shud we be expecting another email ? If that is it, the mail did not come from Harvard but by a certain Christine Sumner.. so maybe it got into your spam mail folder?
  14. Hi all Undergrad at a top school but an insignificant country lol GPA :3.6/4.3 - i don't know how that goes in a 4.0 scale - some system gave me 3.5/4.0, another 3.2/4.0 - i would like to belive it's 3.5 lol - still, not very impressive Currently doing my Master's at same top school from insignifcant country GPA: 4.0/4.0 GRE Q800 (94%). V710(98%), A4.5 (64%) Toefl 120/120 ( I'm an international applicant) Have been doing research for 2years and a half now- I have my own project for my masters but it's progressing at a turtle's pace - done research with protein modification, yeast two hybrids, common basic molecular work (dang i should have talked about it more on my SOP) No publications, one poster presentation in a major symposium, but was not the main presentator (?) - kind of a backup (but still, my name's on it and the schools won't check so there) LoR from my advisor and two other professors who have not seen me in research but have known me since my undegrad. I really don't know how they'll write for me tho - hopefully well, but ummm. i'm not counting on it much (which sucks cuz apparently they're important ) what else... oh, I'm gonna receive a scholarship from a private foundation here if i get accepted in one of the top graduate schools so i'm applying to the immunology dept. of Upenn, Stanford, Cornell, biology in public health / epidemiology in Harvard, Yale and Johns Hopkins cell.mol.path at wisconsin (actually i haven't applied to this yet) biology at MIT and WUSTL actually, i'm not very confident - i have no research experience in immunology - just in general molecular biology and some in neuroscience and I don't think the recommenders took enough time for my LoRs and I talked about a bunch of crap in my SOP, and just one paragraph about my current reseach plus i'm an international applicant... but oh well I haven't heard from any school's yet but most of my applications have been completed only last week so ... hopefully... it's just too early good luck to all of you~!
  15. How long before they send emails requesting interviews, or acceptance e-mails, or rejection emails? I am seriously checking my mail 10 times a day although I know that it's too early - my application was only completed a week ago ,some, just three days ago but how long do pple usually receive some kind of email from the schools? This is going to be the gloomiest christmas ever - i'm eating my heart out boohoo
