Where I am, it comes with your funding. The students with outside funding get very inadequate insurance, with the option to buy an equally inadequate supplemental plan. But I wonder if the prestige of the NSF has ever helped anyone talk their way into staying on the decent insurance offered with their internal funding. If the alternative is to refuse the NSF and stay on school funding to keep my insurance, I'd hope my school would want to deal...

What do recipients do for health insurance? Does your school cut you off if you accept an NSF award?

I'm worried about the ratio of hoots to gibbers in my SOP. And I'm afraid my dominance display was more style than substance.

Thanks, plisar...this is calming! Is anyone else out there who can confirm this is the case at other schools as well? I understood the deadline to mean all docs should be received by that date, and I can verify that everything was delivered to the proper address or was submitted online in time, but I didn't consider the part where the school has to open and file the transcripts, GRE scores, etc... When a school says it's my responsibility to make sure everything's received by the deadline, they're not expecting me to factor in their envelope-opening, document-matching time, are they?

Thanks for your thoughts. It's not that I'm against attending, it's just that there are so many wild cards in this school...I'd feel better taking a chance and going if I knew how easy it would be to transfer, if I had to. Any idea?

I applied to 3 programs, and I've only heard from my last-choice school (acceptance with funding). Should I go, or wait till next year and apply to my first choices again, plus a few other schools? I'm working now, although not in the field, so money/occupation isn't a problem, but I don't want to let another year go by... Help!
