  1. I was offered an Instructor position in the English/Folklore department and was wondering if anyone else was going this Fall? I'm really hoping to find some buddies so I won't be going in completely blind/alone, since I'll be moving 2000 miles across country to attend.
  2. So, good news! I have been accepted into USU's Folklore program, and I am totally excited! However, I'm also very nervous. I have only received an email congratulating me on my acceptance. I have not received an official letter nor any information on funding. So here is where my anxiety is killing me. Do I send an email asking my adviser/the program's director about funding, or should I wait until I get the official letter and see if something comes with it? I know this may seem like a dumb question, but I wasn't lying about my anxiety. I tend to over think everything and worry that the smallest slight will get me hated forever. Anyways. Any veterans got any advice? Thank y'all so much for your patience with me!
  3. Accepted into Utah State for Folklore yesterday. Rejected from Oregon. I guess that's truly you win some, you lose some.
  4. Hey guys! So I've been given the chance to call and have a brief interview with one of the advisers at USU, and I was wondering how should I handle this? What questions should I ask? I have terrible phone anxiety, and so the thought of talking to someone who could possibly hold my future in my hands is enough to make me shake. I know I should ask about research possibilities, how well this department works with that one (since I want to cross folklore and gender studies), but other than that, I am stumped. Any veterans have advice for those of us far too clueless about (and scared of) phone interviews?
  5. @Dedi Thank you again for all your help! I'm going to assume that the above format is still acceptable if the program specifically asks you to email them before applying. @bsharpe269 Did he mention why? I don't see why people would be annoyed that someone wants to attend their school and study under them. Seems like a little pat on the back to me.
  6. Thank you so much for your help so far! If they don't really have instructions on how to contact the faculty, do I need to send the CV, unless she specifically asks for it? I am entering my fourth year of undergrad and will be applying this upcoming term, so I don't need to worry about it being too early. (At least, I hope not.)
  7. If this is in the wrong area, I'm sorry guys! I'm new, and not sure where exactly to place this. Moving on, I was curious if anyone knew how/when to go about contacting your POI? (And if anyone could give me a nod and assure me that POI is basically the person you want as your adviser during your time in graduate school, that would be great.) Not to sound like I'm making excuses, but I have terrible anxiety when contacting new people, mostly because I'm afraid I'll say one wrong thing and then get shut down forever. So if you guys have tips, would you mind sharing them? Or even your own experiences! I would really appreciate it.
