  1. About the LOR, I am planning to two from my professors, but I am not sure about the third one. I had an internship in an startup for a month. Maybe I will ask my them for one LOR
  2. I am applying for MS. Yes I am planning to retake my GRE for sure, the problem is I will miss the due date for fall 2015 and that's why I am thinking try to apply this time before Jan 15, even though the chance is low
  3. Computer science major in a new york state university GPA 2.87 GRE V143, Q159 Currently working in Psychology department as Research assistant Did a one month intern in a startup during the winter Program to apply: Human computer interaction U of Washington U of Baltimore Indiana University Bloomington Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis DePaul university University of Maryland UNIVERSITY OF IOWA
  4. My original plan was working for at least one year after I graduate before I apply for graduate school. but since there are only few schools I want apply I decide take a shot this year. I am assuming when I fill out the online application, I will have the option to send my professor a request for LOR, and I will do the same thing for other school's online application as well. but what if I know my chance are low and I want to apply next year as well, do I need to ask professor again ? I feel like professor will most likely forget who I am after I left school
  5. This is so inspiring. I am also a none-native speaker. I took my GRE last week and I got 142V/159Q. I only memorized about 600 words from Magoosh flashcards, obviously it's not enough. I am still in my last year of college so I don't really have time to study during the semester. College is definitely busier than a full time job. My question is did you memorized all of the words from Painless GRE app, Kaplan's flashcards and Magoosh flashcards ? Sometimes I write down the word I don't know from the practice problem. Do you think it is necessary or I should just stick with those GRE vocabulary app And how do you use Quizlet app ? Unlike magoosh flashcards, you have to enter words yourself in Quizlet, I found it is really time consuming so i give up.
  6. I am a senior computer science student. I took my GRE exam last week and it was kind bad, V142 Q159. I just started doing research last week. I am applying for Human computer interaction program I see most of the MS application are due on January. I am really busy during the semester and I don't think I have time to study GRE again until winter break. so I will most likely miss the due date by the time I take GRE again. so I am wondering if I apply next year, what should I do during this gap year except study GRE ? If I start looking for job I may end up getting a 2-year contract which I don't really want to cause I want to go to graduate school.
  7. It's my first time took this test. I know I will have to wait two week for writing score. I am wondering why I cannot see my math and verbal score on my GRE account since I already saw them after I finish the exam
  8. Undergraduate: computer science major, looking for any Human computer interaction program GRE V142, Q159 GPA 2.86 (2 semester left) currently doing research in psychology department I know my current grade is pretty bad. I am trying to improve it in my last year, and I will retake GRE during winter or after I graduate. However, there are some school stop accepting application in January such as indiana university bloomington, Should I at least try to apply those schools before due date ?
  9. This is my last year for undergraduate. First of all I don't know what exactly is a good relationship with professor. There are two professors I want to ask for LOR, I took 3 classes with both of them, and I went to their office hour a lot. (I didn't know I would ask for LOR one day, I was simply asking questions about the class) I believe they both remember my name. This is basically my relationship between these two professors, I don't know if I can consider this as a good or bad relationship, so I don't really know how should I ask them for LOR The third professor: I don't think he remember my name. I took two classes with him and they are both really hard, I can barely see him during the office hour because everyone wants to ask question. However, I did really good on one of his group project based class. My group were in the final round of his project competition. Research professor: I am start doing research this semester. During research, I am either doing experiment with myself in the lab or with a graduate student, I barely see professor. Although research experience is good for app, I just dont know how could I ask him for LOR if we barely met. The last one is my former employer. I did a summer internship in a start up. My boss was a young guy, 25ish, who just start the company about 6 months at the time. I didn't really do anything during that month, cause my boss didn't really know what to do (He is a business major and I am studying computer science). Although he offed to write LOR for me if I needed help in the future, I really have no idea what he can write for me just based on my work during on month.
  10. Practice test I have done over the past month Aug 3 Manhattan prep Q: 156 V:149 Aug 19 PowerPrep1 Q: 158 V:141 Sep 1 Magoosh Q: 155: V:140 I have been study GRE for the last three months. It seems like I can only score around 300. I am an international student. My problem is I can barely understand the multiple choice on verbal section, so I can only score 20-30%. My exam is on Sep 20, I have less than 3 weeks for improve my score. I need some advice on my study plan.
  11. I just did a practice exam on PowerPrep, and I absolutely hate it. The screen is tooooo small. My eyes are hurt after only one hour. I wondering if the real GRE exam is using the same program as PowerPrep
  12. If the question ask me to pick a side and supporting my position, also address both of the views presented, I usually like to use the first two body paragraphs discuss my position, last body paragraph for counter paragraph. Does it matter if I put my counter paragraph on the first or last paragraph ? I prefer put the counter paragraph on the first so I can supporting my position from the second body until the end.
  13. English is not my first language. I know verbal section will be my biggest enemy. When I am doing verbal section, most of time I don't understand any of the option. I literally just don't know any of those words. Especially in sentence equivalence where you need to choose two words which have the meaning. I cannot do much but guess. I know I need to study more vocabularies. That's why I've been doing this month. I study GRE vocabulary and I will write down the word that I don't know from the practice question. However I don't know if this is gonna work. I mean there are a lot of them. I still don't know any of the option in sentence equivalence.
  14. Thank you for your advice. I will start looking for human factors programs now
  15. Question: As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. As the result of fast growing technology, people rely more and more on technology to solve problems. However, people rely on technology as a tool to solve problems not as a solution. A more complex software are developed by hard working computer developers with a complex problem solving skills. Human’s curiosity will inspire us to make better technology. Finally technology are only tools for artist, creativity is what leads them to make better product. First, as software is getting smarter and smarter, it proves that the problem solving skills of our developer are improving which leads them to make better software. I am studying computer science in the college. Programing requires a strong problem solving skills and a logic ability. Behind every successful software, there are thousands and thousands lines of code with a complex logic. Because of this efficient logic skills we have, software we made are becoming a useful tool for more and more people. Second, no matter what higher technology we have, it always start with an idea which comes from human’s curiosity. Ford invent cars because he wants a better transportation. Our smart phone can do a lot more than just calling and texting because people are asking more. Our curiosity can inspire us looking for more problems and improving our problem solving skills, since technology is the product of our curiosity. Finally, technology is never a limitation of human mind, but a tool to help us growing especially in art industry. A better technology can make a movie more realistic, but it won’t limit the creativity of our movie maker. A movie scene is starting in director’s mind, then using technology as a tool to express them on the screen. A good movie is good even though it is made in the past when technology were not as good as now. Technology can help our artist make a good movie but it is their performance to make a movie better and better Clearly, technology is helping us make a better world. We can’t live without technology because we are rely on them to help us. Rather than rely on technology as a solution to make better life, we are using them to as a tool to work with us. A better technology is being made because people’s curiosity and ability of thinking leads us. We are improving technology not technology improving us I am appreciate any feedback. I am not a native speaker. I am trying to improve my verbal and writing as much as I can. It is OK if you think I should rewrite the whole thing.
  16. I am senior student, studying computer science in the college with a GPA 2.8. I am preparing for GRE right now. I know my chance to get into a UX graduate program is low based on my grade. I am wondering if there are something else I can do to improve my chances. Some people say to start build a portfolio, but I don't have any experience on UX design, and I don't know how to start. I am planning to send out my application this November.
