  1. @ Medieval I was told by admissions staff that the UNC system is and older one, & doesn't allow them to update status after the initial post

  2. Aww, thanks, that would be fantastic!
  3. The grocery store hoarding phenomenon is alive and well The store shelves are almost completely empty of food, which is a bit eerie. My husband and I have been making the standard jokes about who will get eaten first in our household. My favorite, though, is the article that popped up in the Washington Post - at a Safeway in DC, the employees just left in the middle of the storm, leaving the lights on and doors open. Some shoppers ventured in, picked up a few items, and left cash on the conveyor belt.
  4. Ohhh yeah. Pretty much all my schools have been/will be impacted in some way. I'm trying to decide, is it easier that I'm also in the middle of Snowmegeddon/Snoverkill, or not? At least being in the middle of it, I see firsthand why the schools will be delayed in responding. On the other hand, I too have been stuck at home since Friday, twiddling my thumbs and starting to crawl the walls a bit.
  5. WUSTL. It's a top 3 program, best fit for me, I love the area, and I have friends in the school already
  6. I had a somewhat similar situation with the UNC application system, some of my items were marked incomplete. I emailed the dept., and they confirmed all my materials had been received, but because the system was "old", they weren't able to update some of the fields. They are probably getting swamped with emails this time of year. I'd try sending it one more time just in case the first one was lost in cyber space, then call if you don't have a response in a couple of days.
  7. Bless you, coyabean, for taking the time with that response. And, thanks to everyone for chipping in ideas. I work for a university as a staff member, though in a non-academic unit. I'm being encouraged by the admin to write a grant in order to obtain a few pieces of equipment desperately needed by my staff (and which can't be covered by our budget). I figured the practice would be useful, too, if I get accepted somewhere (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease).
  8. Hi folks, can any of you suggest a helpful book, web site, etc. for how to write a grant? I've never written one and have no clue where to start
  9. FYI, an update for anyone else with a similar question in the future I submitted the application to SOPHAS in mid-December; it was marked verified Jan. 13; and was mailed out Jan. 20.
  10. I'm in the camp of saying something. Two things pop into my head. The first, will this kind of behavior end at letters of rec, or will this person continue using deceitful practices when they want something? The second thing is, it's not just the OP who is impacted, but all the people who are also applying for the forger's program. It's hard enough trying to get in, please let it at least be a semi-fair competition
  11. Oh geez, I just snorted tea out my nose. I think I'll be looking at my spam in a whole new way from now on.
  12. Oh, hi, Nacho. I didn't even know there was a "friend" mechanism. Of course. I'm honored.

  13. Are you familiar with this quote? Quite fitting for this conversation! “Everything we hear from people we interview is that today’s consumers draw no distinctions between an organization’s Web site and their traditional bricks-and-mortar presence: both must be excellent for either to be excellent.” Lee Rainie, Director, Pew Internet and American Life Project http://www.pewinternet.org/Experts/Lee-Rainie.aspx
  14. Schools of Public Health at both. At JHU, I'd be next door to you in the Dept. of Health, Behavior & Society It's a long shot for me, but worth trying. I'm interested in CBPR to address health disparities, myself. I have a good friend who teaches a graduate course in healthcare IT, so I know a little about it. Drop me a line (my email is linked in my profile) and we'll talk more shop!
  15. My brain instantly thought, "Oh noes!1!! What if you are on a komodo dragon sanctuary or something!?" But then again, I'm weird that way. An aside...I'm applying to Harvard and Hopkins too, but for public health (community health focus). I worked in a Big 10 school Dept. of Health Policy & Admin. for several years, so I have many friends who are health policy faculty & researchers. Good luck, hope all goes well for you!
