  1. Wow really? Can you explain this? I have never heard of this. How is it a school if it doesn't have grades and credits? Is it accredited? I didn't know you could apply to graduate school from a place like that, what school is it?
  2. Isn't it scary to feel like unless you go to the top school that you won't have a shot at a decent job? It makes me wonder if I should even bother going to a school that isn't top tier... will my education be worth anything? Is there any hope for us at all if we can't get into Harvard? Wow it is a terrifying world out there
  3. Not everybody has this luxury. If you have no financial safety net or resources to just travel and screw around, not getting in can be really devastating. I understand the suggestion of trying to make rejection the best experience possible, but right now the economy is at a record low and there just isn't room to spend time doing things that won't lead to career advancements. At least I know that is how a lot of people my age feel right now, like things are so bad that there isn't time to waste and its going to be a long time before things like family come in anyway because of the years that have to be spent in school in order to have a shot at a decent job. In this economy there's a good chance you'd spend that entire year just looking for a job to support yourself in the meantime and not find anything... it can be terrifying to think about.
  4. So does this mean that younger people such as myself that are straight out of undergrad don't have a chance?
  5. This is why I'm applying to 14-15 schools, I can't let this happen to me. It would be impossible for me to get a job in this economy and I don't know what I'd do with myself... I'm keeping my fingers crossed
  6. Hi, I've been lurking around trying to gauge my chances at getting in anywhere and I'm feeling more and more disheartened. I'll post my stats on here and let people give me their honest reactions. I'm currently a senior and finishing up my undergraduate. UGPA overall 3.13 (from a small, moderately prestigious private liberal arts school) In major GPA 3.37 GRE: 570V 630Q 3.5AW I am conducting a research project at school and sent the schools a copy of my proposal (it has to do with crime perceptions) I have very good relationships with my professors and I have 3 that have given me glowing LOR (not that I've read them but they told me) I know my AW score is really low, I don't know what happened I guess they just didn't like my writing but I know my writing is generally strong and I've submitted several writing samples. My school is known for grade deflation and they do send a letter with all transcripts explaining that but I'm just worried that my GPA is too low to even get me considered. As a result I've applied to 10 places and am planning on applying to several more because I really need to be in school this coming fall. I've applied to UMD, UVA, American, GW, BU, Brandeis, Penn State, UNC Charlotte & Wilmington and UDel Any suggestions? Thank you
  7. Why didn't you just send everything in online? All my applications were online, they didn't want any paper supplements.
  8. Hi, I am a senior at a small, prestigious private liberal arts college Sociology major, applying to Sociology MA programs for Fall 2010 Overall GPA: 3.10 Last 2 years: 3.01 Major GPA: 3.37 GRE: 1200 3.5AW (I don't know what happened with the writing, I know I'm a very good writer, am submitting writing samples) I am conducting my own independent study research project and fielding a survey at school I know I will have good recommendations from my professors I have applied to UVA, UMD, American, Brandeis, UDEL, GW, Penn State, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington and BU I'm worried because of my low GPA and AW score they won't even consider me and I don't stand a chance at any of the places I'm already applying to so I've started to panic and looking for other schools with lesser requirements My schools is known for grade deflation and they do send a letter with all transcripts stating that grades from here are typically lower than normal universities, but I'm not sure how much that will really matter I just don't want to be left in a few months with only rejections, I need to get in somewhere, what do you think I should do? I'm going to end up spending thousands on like 20 applications if I don't figure this out Thanks!
  9. I started out with 10 but I'm going to increase it to 15. I'm scared I won't get in anywhere and I need to get in at least one place or I don't know what I'll do with myself next year.
