  1. That four hour bus ride to NYC from Cornell is $75 each way. Also, Ithaca is extremely economically depressed, and not very racially diverse! Just sayin.
  2. If you study African Diaspora, Cornell is the bomb. Salah Hassan and Cheryl Finley are amazing. Very nurturing faculty. But Ithaca is not my cup of tea, being a city girl myself. Not sure about Santa Cruz's program, but if it too has awesome Diaspora people, I'd go there. Prestige only goes so far. The main things you should be worrying about is $ (which doesn't seem to be an issue for you), faculty, and resources available (resources meaning networking, neighboring institutions, archives, etc).
  3. I'm curious, has anyone accepted to Duke decided to decline? I am really feeling the pressure from another school to accept/decline my funding, and my decision all hinges on Duke. The person with admissions couldn't give me any info as to my ranking or chances, so I wondered if I could do a lil detective work...
  4. Question for the Americanists out there: For 19th and early 20th century art/visual culture in the U.S., would you pick Boston U or Cornell (having to choose between the two) for a PhD.
  5. You should just email whatever prof you're in contact w/ at Harvard and ask. That's what I did! Even though the reply was disappointing I am DEF relieved to know and to be able to focus my thoughts on my alternatives, ya know?
  6. We've had three candidates in to fill her spot: Anthony Mangieri, S. Rebecca Martin, and Kristen Seamen. The search committee is soliciting feedback from the department (including the students) so they can make the best decision. I don't know when they're making their decision, but I imagine it'll be very soon, as feedback was due by March 6. If you end up coming here you're almost sure to be working w/ one of those three scholars. Hope this helps!
  7. Cool-- Duke is a great program; I'm on the waitlist and I would love to go. You must have some great options! Good luck in finding the school that best fits. If for some crazy reason one of your options is BU, let me know-- I'm currently a student there and I can give you (or anyone out there) some feedback on what it's like.
  8. To the Cornell people: you're probably on the waitlist. Have you tried calling? I know for a fact they've already sent out acceptances. I was in a similar position as you guys w/ Duke; it seemed like a lot of ppl had heard and so I just contacted them, and found out I was on the waitlist. Hope this helps.
  9. borromini's girl, are you gonna accept? congratulations; you must deserve it
  10. Hey Opemi, how do you know such detailed info? Just curious...
  11. Hi there! Accepted for the History of Art PhD program for this fall. Exciting, but I'm still waiting to hear from Duke and Harvard. Hey, so I plan on visiting Cornell in mid-March; do you think I should ask my department if they'd pay/reimburse my trip?
  12. Can we assume at this point that Duke has made its decisions? Ugh, why haven't I heard from them yet! Someone please let us in on what's going on... :-/
  13. Seriously though, has ANYONE heard from Harvard or have an idea of their notification timeline? I got accepted to a great program w/ glorious funding; I just want to know where I stand w/ Harvard and Duke so that I can MOVE ON. If anyone has insight on either of these two programs, please put me out of my misery now. Thanks, and good luck to you all.
  14. I was accepted to Cornell so I'm guessing they've made their decisions. I too am waiting to hear from Harvard, and since I haven't I'm assuming that I wasn't accepted. These places don't really care about notifying their rejects, lol.
