  1. Notre Dame for an MFA in Photography
  2. I don't know theres probably a couple hundred people (probably more like a couple thousand) every year graduating with there MFA in graphic design from colleges all over the country. There are thousands graduating with there bachelors. I think its a market where your work really speaks for you. i dont think that an employer will really care what you have a degree in or where it is from. your individual style is what is ultimately going to get you a job. i think ultimately if your motivated and work your ass off youll be able to make things happen. Chances are in 2 years when your done your MFA at either school you will be in the same predicament of looking for a job. I am sure you will miss out on some of the technical side of graphic design by going for print which could hinder your skill set. also you might miss out on the contacts in the industry but you will meet plenty of people in the print world and it wont matter in the end. You should probably try to learn as much as you can about graphic design while going to school for printmaking. in the end though, most people working at big ad agencies are artist or were artist before their career took over their life. I think you should go to Cranbrook and try to figure it out there. There will always be jobs in graphic design if you pursue it. also you could always get a job in the world of print making. Ultimately we all have to make the decision for ourself where to go to school and you just got to go with your gut.
  3. Portafoy I dont really know your work so it is hard to say but I would vote for SVA. SVA seems to be always putting out good student work which gives you good insight into their program. Also Charlie Traub that runs the program is a long time educator and pretty important in the way of photo. As for SAIC, I honestly think that they are sort of living off of the reputation of past faculty members and the fact that they are apart of a major museum. I think cost of living will be slightly higher in NYC but ultimately you can live pretty cheap there. But Chicago is a beautiful city so either way its hard to say. Labmouse once again it is hard to say since I dont know your work but I think MCAD is a really good program if you can stand the bitter cold weather of Minneapolis. MCAD is definitely more than just a mentoring program but ultimately I think you need to pick the geographical place you want to be: the warm weather of San Fran, the cold of Minneapolis, or the huge art scene of NYC. All the schools you picked are in very different climates and cultural lifestyles. I dont know if this was any help for either of you but I just figured I would put my opinion out there.
  4. BEAR and portafoy, sorry didnt realize you were talking about hearing after an interview. nope did not get an interview so I imagine that makes a big difference. Good luck.
  5. I heard from SAIC MFA Photo maybe a week and half ago (rejected). Hopefully you get better news.
  6. mojdfilm, I recieved noticed this week from notre dame via email. They ask me to come for an interview. I am sure you will here soon.
  7. I saw that some people got interviews like back at the end of Feb. I just got my rejection letter today from RISD so I guess it is safe to say you will hear soon.
  8. I am still waiting to hear from Notre Dame as well but from the photography department. I don't think the art school has finished the decision making process.
  9. I am just going to guess that your Denni, cookiemonster. Since you go to Drexel and your going to grad school for printmaking. You also are super happy for Cranbrook and Jen went to Cranbrook. Its Joe I was in your printmaking 1 class last term if you are in fact who I think you are. Thats pretty funny if I am guessing right here.
  10. Congrats cookiemonster. Do you go to drexel by any chance cookiemonster? I also only have BS but in photography. I definitely agree that your undergrad degree matters but honestly I think most schools are looking mostly at your portfolio. I know someone that graduated from my school with a BS in photography and got rejected to a grad school. That grad school in the rejection letter said that he should take more art courses which is somewhat ridiculous because he did go to school for art. I think it just depends on the school.
  11. So I received an acceptance from MFA photography program at MCAD and an email from Mass College of Art and Design with an interview. I have also been rejected from Yale and SAIC. So I am super nervous about the interviewing process. Does anyone know what people wear to interviews for grad school at art schools? Are they really formal or informal? I know for like med school you would probably wear a suit but that seems like to much for this? What is the proper attire for a male?
