Not to rub salt in that wound but how did you know you're rejected? Mine still says "in review" and I haven't received an email. (don't feel too bad---remember there's always money in the banana stand) -

I actually noted all of the above in my first and only readthrough at the time. seemed pretty straighfoward to me, and am not ascribing intent. life is funny and people are funny and the internet is funny so I had a good laugh, and it looks like I wasn't the only one! -

no the joke was that their bad/pompous phrasing IMPLIED they couldn't speak ANY language (I don't know anyone who isn't proficient in at least ONE language.) then the assumption was drawn that one should also be somewhat fluent in English to study it, despite what the phrasing implied....never actually entertained that as a real possibility. -

no one is focusing---just amused! life is funny. " Unofficial email from DGS. SLAC. Extremely good GRE/subject test scores. Imaginative, unprecedented research. Clear research goals. Several conferences, one publication. Four languages (but I explicitly said I was nowhere near fluent in any of them). I waited a couple of years after undergrad before applying (my writing sample has nothing to do with my undergraduate work)." -

This is amazing hahahahaha. Also something seemed fishy to me because if I remember Vanderbilt doesn't require the subject test....so why would they have bragged about subject test scores? -

and the way they phrased the 4 languages part makes it sound like they aren't fluent in ANY language.....which is going to make a PhD program in ENGLISH kind of difficult if you ask me.... -

1) have you logged in yet? Mine is still listed as "submitted" but I assume that's where the decision WOULD be? 2) is your SOP not visible?? I know I submitted mine but it's not showing up anymore. -

I thought it was a "your app has been received" email, but it seems so late for that?? Part of me hopes it's a pre-Finalist email, but the fact they didn't fill in my name makes me think they sent this to everyone who applied.... -
