  1. Hi Kev, Thanks for your suggestions and being honest! I wonder if you have checked out my paintings in the Est-quod-est series and http://huili.portfoliobox.me/s ? I do have solid studio practice in art classes, like color theory, anatomy, perspective, composition, etc. and I was quite traditional before. The front-page may not be easy to accept., since I gave up common color and composition practice intentionally in the "happily-ever-after" series, and took a rather expressive approach instead. The color and style is a bit like "neo-neo-expressionism" and there are differences too. Probably need to make the change obvious enough for most people to notice? Finally, to answer your question, my only dream since childhood is to be an artist.. very-complicated and long story...
  2. Yes! I am still in school now(non-art), and want to follow my passion for the next step! Any suggestions on my work? Thx!
  3. Definitely need critiques! Since my undergrad/grad majors were both non-art ... Thanks a lot ! ! My portfolio in progress: http://huili.portfoliobox.me/
  4. When I google images of "national portfolio day ", I saw lots of pictures with people carrying large portfolio bags and with their original paintings. Is that a common practice to bring original paintings ? Some of my paintings are larger than 30x30 inch on stretched canvas, not a good idea to use the originals? Is it better to take large size prints, or a book (16 inch the long side at most ), or even an laptop/ipad? Thanks for your suggestion!
  5. Iowa and Oregon for sure. BTW. I like your work, especially the one under category painting, although they are locked, and I can only see thumbnails.
  6. will be posting it in a month or so, undergoing now Thanks much!
  7. such an early freak-out. Good luck everybody !
  8. and still admitted by top 20 or maybe top 30 MFA program ? All the program state that BA, BFA is not required, but when I look into their graduate students bio, everyone has a BA/BFA. I am not an art major, not even related to art. It was not something I could control at that time ... Is it an hopeless application at all ? anyone know people in top MFA program without BA/BFA ? Thanks !
