  1. The Manchester Business School is definitely one of the best in the UK and the Engineering dept is one of the top programmes too. The Manchester campus is very city-based, but all the department buildings are lined along one road. Manchester as a city is much more fun than Nottingham - more culture, more things going on. Manchester is definitely rising in the league tables, and recently is on a par with Nottingham and all the other Russell Group universities (the UK ivy leagues). However many still think that Nottingham has a better rep because it has traditionally been a better uni, but Manchester is definitely up and coming and catching up.
  2. still waiting.............come on Yale hurry up.........................
  3. ha - i was just telling the rest of my housemates about my amazing dream last night about getting accepted into my top choice - it was SO vivid as well, i actually woke up and nearly died coz it wasn't real. I've just been building this result release sooo much in my head that i seriously do not think i can function properly until I hear back from my top choice. (Which should be sometime this week!!!!) I wish i wasn't so retarded.
  4. hey mus68 - I've applied to Yale as well! When you say 'first round of cuts' - does that mean they reject a whole load of people early on, before they make the final decisions? I phoned them up last week because i wanted to check if my supplementary materials had arrived in the snail mail (of course they got lost in the mail, so typical) so i had to do some damage control. The grad officer at the music department told me that the committee were processing applications 'now' (which was last week) so i expect to hear from them soon.. if the results page is anything to go by, we should be hearing next week. Fingers crossed!!! :S
  5. i wish i could just get on with my life and not think about them until i am hopefully pleasantly surprised........ and although i know there's absolutely no point in checking this forum and the application website (JUST GOTTA WAIT FOR THAT EMAIL) i still do it anyway like I'll miraculously get a reply somehow!! I'm so pathetic!!
  6. thanks for your advice. I will be doing that.
  7. Yeah if I could i definitely would, but the graph is 3 sheets of A3 stapled together and has to be read in one long line. If i scanned it in it would break up to 6 sheets of A4 which would be a nightmare to piece together let alone read...
  8. Hey guys, I know there has been a similar post here a while ago but I thought i'd just post my experience here - I just phoned up my top choice university to check if they received the supplementary materials to my application (an extra essay that had big graphs so I couldn't have uploaded it online). I sent this off well ahead of the deadline (around late November) and apparently they never received it. I called up the department that I'm applying to, and the graduate admissions secretary told me that I should not worry about it as the admissions committee do not base their admissions on one essay that is missing - she did try to persuade me NOT to send it in to avoid hassle (I live in the UK) and also told me that the committee were reviewing applications RIGHT NOW.... But of course as it is my application I am welcome to post the extra essay to her.. Now i don't want to be the annoying one who sends in the late essay that probably won't even make a difference to the application in the committee's eyes, but I will be preeeetty annoyed if I don't send it in and get rejected. What do you guys think?? LESSON: CALL AND CHECK WITH YOUR UNIVERSITIES

    Masters!

hhaha - When i visited the campus/met the director of grad studies at the university of one of the masters programmes that I've applied to, i was told that they have had no applications to the terminal MA programme for as long as the director's been there for.. hahahahaha. They only get PhDs although the terminal masters programme does exist in the handbook. No idea why that is though - their masters course is my top choice - sounds like an awesome programme from what the course outline says! Guess if i do get in i might be the only masters student.. hahahaha whoops

    Masters!

Hey guys, Just wondering what your opinion is on people applying to self-funded Masters programmes. Would it make sense in thinking that since in essence, you are paying the university to study there rather than the other way round, your chances might be sliiiiiiightly better? I do realise that acceptances are mostly merit-based but perhaps in a recession, they'd like to receive masters students who pay for themselves.. haha.. What do you think?
