  1. not me. sorry. i think i was lied to. it seems like this week is the week though.
  2. We can only speculate, which I am told is godly ... They have a duty to be transparent and honest with us, and I doubt that they "change their story" as you suggest. It is in the realm of the possible, but I would not do that in their situation. I find the narrative that we have pieced together to be most likely: 1), the committee is in the process of reviewing, 2) a few applicants have been contacted because one or more members of the committee believe that they can make a more informed rating of the candidate with additional information, and 3) the committee will meet to throw our apps down the stairs at the end of the month. Besides the trust that I have for people to do the right thing and the reasonableness of this explanation, I believe that Stanford may follow a similar, logical system. 1st, some on this board report recent interviews. Second, i just contacted STANFORD. She said that (presumably all) decisions will be communicated by e-mail and mail by the 15th. That's this week, pretty much. It seems to follow a similar process to Yale, only two weeks earlier; you may recall that the application deadlines were approximately two weeks apart. Good luck!
  3. Howdy yall - I just called Yale (and a few others) and dude said that the committee will meet at the end of the month and decide en masse at that time. He insisted that most/all of the (admissions) decisions have not been made. Maybe another fellow freak is willing to call to confirm either what Nina or I have heard? If so, be polite - and persistent Solidarity, vegancommies'r'us
  4. Yes, tears about Yale. (Thanks for the note, Nina.) Perhaps they transposed letters in our e-mail addresses? ... At least I won't have to learn how to accurately pronounce the nuances in Sivaramakrishman Vanishing, well done on both UT and - where?
  5. Wow. That's rough. I also hate the applyyourself system. I've been able to connect with them on the phone, and have had some great conversations with faculty over e-mail, but these experiences mean little if my application is not complete. Hmm ... Perhaps I'll call them again to make sure that everything is in order.
  6. Well done, Early! 160 pounds is fantastic. How's your health now? My father passed away two weeks ago, and I missed the first week of classes. I had a seizure last Friday which has resulted in the discovery of congenital abnormalities in my right frontal lobe; a diagnosis of epilepsy followed. This explains quite a few things about my "learning style" and it's actually comforting, although we will have to wait to see how it presents. And here I had thought that I was just anti-authority My question is whether I should contact the schools that I applied to and update them on the situation? My form of epilepsy -- based as it is on a fucked up brain -- seems to carry with it learning disabilities. I think that I can make a pretty cogent argument. Could it possibly score me a more compassionate review? Perhaps it's already too late? Cheers, mates. It sucks to take on way too many projects and for something catastrophic to happen to those that we love.
  7. That sounds great, Vanishingpoint. You know your schools and the admission process well. I'm also intrigued by your interests. I do not want to live in Texas and did not look into Rice. I will look into the project that you mention. I studied the top ten or so programs, and applied to the ones that seemed amenable to my interests and in decent locales. Unfortunately ranking and prestige are important in the academy, and I would like to preserve as many options as possible. I don't want to dedicate 7 years to studies only to be forced to accept a job in North Dakota. So although Georgia and Hawai'i have great environmental programs, they just don't have the reputation. I had to settle - and we are at the point in which I wonder whether any will admit me. Good luck! Minneapolis is a nice place.
  8. howdy yall. great to see that there are already some acceptances. minneapolis is a nice place. their human rights work is unrivaled. what turned you two on about their program? waiting is not much fun. sometimes i get caught up researching what may be my new hometown, and it is very exciting to consider what the streets smell like and how the local government works. most of my thoughts involve concerns that the traditional metrics of academic performance are not as stellar in my record as they are in others, and that my writings will not be well received; these are unpleasant and largely irrational thoughts. it seems that funding is pretty automatic at most schools? i applied to stanford, yale, michigan and arizona proposing to study the social lives of climate change. solidarity and cheers,
