I got it about a week ago, and other international master's applicants in this thread commented that they'd gotten it too. Did you check your Spam folder?
-
This is the link to the admissions results.
-
Hi everyone! I also got the email just a few hours ago.
-
I haven't received anything yet, so that's probably for doctoral applicants? Has anyone applying for Master's got an email?
-
@José, welcome to the thread! @Samda, yes, from some of the past threads it does seem like HGSE posts decisions for the Master's programs during the first week of March. I applied about a month ago, so the waiting game has been on for me for a few weeks thus far! I'm trying to concentrate on work to keep my mind off it until March, but I always end up coming back to this thread Any fellow TIE applicants out there?

Thanks, Applemiu! I actually decided to go with the other one... They ask for 2 professional and 1 academic recommendations, and since this one's a professional recommendation I thought the Director of the institution would carry more weight. Plus, my academic recommendation is already from a PhD. I hope I made the right choice

Hello everyone, I'm applying to 2 top-tier programs in Educational Technology, and one of my LoR's will be from the Cultural Section of the Consulate General of Italy in my country, as I did consulting work for them (I advised and helped them with taking some of their educational programs online). I worked with both the Director and the Vice-Director of the organization, and both of them offered to write the letter. Neither knows me better than the other, so it all comes down to this... Should I choose: 1. The Vice-Director, who has a PhD? (and will of course include this in his signature). 2. The Director, who has a higher rank in the organization but doesn't have a PhD? What do you think?

At the moment of applying, you need to provide your unofficial transcripts - you will only need to provide the official ones if you're granted admission (and they reserve the right to withdraw the admissions offer if there are any discrepancies).

Thanks, kingwd! Is there any specific reason why you think calling is better as opposed to email?

Hello everyone, I know it's probably way too early to focus on details, but I started the application early as I won't be able to work on it after December 10th (I really hope to submit it next week if all goes well). I just wanted to ask your opinion on answering one of the questions: If you answer "Yes", please provide a brief explanation in the text box that appears: Have you had any interruptions in your course of study? During my 3rd year as an undergraduate, I changed from full to part-time student, as I had started my own business and of course, I had to work full-time. This resulted in my finishing school in 6 years instead of 4, but I never interrupted the course of study, I just slowed it down. All the dates are of course reflected in my transcripts. So my question is, should I: 1. Answer "No"? 2. Answer "Yes" and explain (although it wasn't strictly an interruption)? 3. Call/email Admissions and ask? I just don't want there to be any discrepancies between my application and the information in my transcripts. Thanks in advance!

I would focus on trying to not be stressed out about it... Although it's definitely important, the GRE is just one item in your application. Terrible scores will not automatically disqualify you, and a 170V 170Q 6.0 AWA will also not automatically get you in. Most of the advice I've seen (even from current students at las week's info session) said to focus on your Statement of Purpose. You want to focus on showing them why you're a good fit for the school and program. In short: study as much as you can, but take it easy and get some rest!

When I attended the TIE session, I noticed it was being recorded. If you can't access the recording directly, I would email Admissions to explain that you have to work and if you can see the recorded session later (they use Adobe Connect so all they'd need to do is send you a link).

Glad you could make it to the virtual meeting! I attended too. Yes, the "cohort with diversity" thing is consistent with what I've read in past years' threads, which is very encouraging

Hi everyone! So, I attended HGSE's virtual information session for prospective Brazilian students last week, and since there's been plenty of discussion in the thread about the GRE, I thought you might find this helpful. When people started asking about the GRE, they said that the section that they consistently see as being more related to an applicant's potential is Analytical Writing. That being said, they review the application holistically and they explicitly said that if you got an AWA score of at least 3.5 and an otherwise strong application, it wouldn't affect you negatively. @Sofro and others applying to TIE, there's a virtual information session for this program tomorrow at 7.30pm EDT. You can register here.

Converting International Grades to US GPA

That makes sense... And you're right, I double-checked and they do ask for my home country's GPA. Thanks! -
Converting International Grades to US GPA
elveintiocho replied to Alexrey's topic in IHOG: International House of Grads
Hello everyone, I have a similar question. My GPA is 8.95/10, i.e. 89.5%. However, I used WES's international GPA calculator (I entered all 44 courses in my undergrad program with their corresponding grade - we don't have credits so this was equal to 1 for every course) and the result was that my GPA was 3.89, which is 97.25% if the total is 4. Does any one know if WES uses a 4.33 scale? That would make both results almost equal. Thank you! -
Thanks for sharing! I'd love to swap SOPs for feedback, but I'm not even close to finishing a first draft of mine yet - maybe in about a month!
-
I just took it once and since I thought the scores were pretty close to the average scores for admitted students as published on HGSE's website (V 81%ile, Q 64%ile), I decided not to take it again and focus instead on my SOP. I've read almost every HGSE thread in this forum and the general opinion that GRE scores were not the most important determinant of admissibility seemed pretty consistent. Also, note that 81%ile and 64%ile are not the cutoff scores, they are the average scores. This means that (most likely, though not necessarily) a significant part of the admitted students scored lower than that. If you have great credentials and relevant work experience (which you seem to have) and you score slightly lower than that, I don't think the GRE scores would matter that much. I just wanted to get it out of the way as soon as possible to concentrate on the rest of the application.

Edugy, do you mind sharing your experience at Columbia's TEIT program? I'm applying to HGSE (TIE) & Stanford (LDT), but I'm also considering applying to Columbia and Penn (LST). Thank you!

Rhfer, prazer em conhecê-la! I'm actually Argentinean but have been living between São Paulo and Buenos Aires for the past 3 years, as my organization is based in SP. Your credentials look awesome, too! Don't be scared of the GRE - I found the AW section to be the biggest challenge as a non-native English speaker (mostly due to the time limit). But in the Verbal and Quantitative sections you'll find the exact same type of questions you can find in any GRE prep guide, there are absolutely no surprises.

Hi everyone! So glad someone started this thread - I've been reading the past threads and found them very informative. I'm also applying to HGSE for the TIE (Technology, Innovation and Education) program. Took the GRE last week and currently working on my SOP and LOR's. I thought I'd borrow the format from the past years' threads to introduce ourselves: GRE Score (Revised): V 159 (81 percentile), Q 155 (60 percentile) AWA:4.0 (AWA was my weak point, hope they consider it's a bit harder for us non-native English speakers! ) GPA: 3.89 Work Experience: Currently and for the past 3 years founder & CEO of an online language-learning company in Brazil with over 350 students, running a team of 35 teachers and Academic Coordinators working 100% remotely; previously founder and Academic Director of an international Spanish language school in Argentina for 4 years, served in the board of the Argentinean Association of Spanish Language schools for 2 years, 8 years of teaching experience (4 online) mostly in foreign language learning for adults. Undergrad Institution (Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): International. Research Experience: Very little, mostly business-related. Applying for PhD or Masters: Masters, 2015. Program: Technology, Innovation and Education. What Other Schools Are You Applying To: Stanford (LDT), Oxford (L&T). Looking forward to talking to other fellow applicants!
