  1. wow. looks like a fantastic place. i am definitely interested in living with other students. PM me for e-mail address.
  2. Hi everyone--- I hope this isn't an odd question, but I was wondering if anyone knows a student at HDS that might be willing to let some of us crash during our stay in Cambridge. If so, or if anyone wants to bunk together, let me know. I love to meet new people, promise I'm a cool dude, and think that we would all have a fun time getting to know one another. Hope this post isn't too campy. (The additional plus to this would also be that we would save several hundred dollars that could go towards actually moving to Cambridge this summer.) And, Poet'sdaughter--- I love the idea of moving in with other HDS students in Somerville. Let me know how this idea is progressing. Best, Nick D.
  3. This is all great news. I was looking at Craigslist last night and found some places for around $500, which really surprised me. I was nauseated by the $1,000/month figure that I first saw. On a funny note, I saw that one of the apts on Davis Sq. described the area as "the Paris of the 90's". Odd, eh?
  4. I think you're right. I would definitely prefer going somewhere in the fall where I at least have acquaintances. Has anyone decided that Harvard is definite? How are you approaching housing options?
  5. Thanks to the debbie downers for hijacking what was an exciting forum. We all know about the "state of the humanities", and for many of us, there are not a lot of options out there. No trustfunds + mediocre GREs = minimal funding and school debt. Trying to get a job right now is not easy, maybe not possible; what else are we suppose to do when this career is indeed what we love and have set our minds to doing?
  6. Hi. I am accepted to the MTS at HDS. I am planning on going to the open house as well. You're right a little networking would be great, especially since I would be going up there alone. Unless I hear something astounding from Chicago this week, I will book my flighs for Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Thanks for starting this group.
  7. Holy Shit. I got into HDS! Congrats to all. We should start a little discussion about who's going to the prospective student day.
  8. I am glad that you called Harvard; I knew that someone would do it. Maybe because of the later deadline this year, they are taking their dear time. I would like to call Chicago, too, but I would hate to hear bad news over the phone.
  9. Congrats! Maybe I should come up with a little story about visiting this weekend too....I suppose that I will just wait until the grand ole' USPS delivers the letter to me here in Georgia. Would you also be attending the prospective student's day? Do you know anything about that?
  10. I completely agree that this week is crawling by. After that person posted on the results page that Chicago would send out letters last week, I have been on pins and needles. Maybe today is the day....
  11. Yes, your answer definitely helps. Thanks for clarifying. It definitely seems that there are different things going on in both programs. Chicago has seemed to be a better fit, but really it depends on what courses will be offered during the coming year. I suppose the benefit with Chicago is that it is connected directly with the university, at least moreso than Harvard, so I could take classes in Social Thought or whatever in order to get the courses in critical theory that I want. Did you ever take classes outside of the dept. during the AM?
  12. Thanks for the responses. It helps to know that there is funding for Masters students. I will also keep in mind that both programs do not offer many courses on the R and L track. I suppose the good thing is that there is still very interesting scholarship happening in the other areas of study, like ethics. "The General": What are the grad requirements of the MTS? Are you writing a thesis? How are your prospects for moving into another program from Harvard Div? Thanks again.
  13. I recently applied to both Chicago and Harvard Divinity to study religion and literature. I am completing an MA in Comparative Literature at the University of Georgia and am hoping to broaden my understanding between critical theory and religion before moving on to the PhD. Has anyone gone through the Lit and Religion track at Harvard or Chicago? Any advise? What kind of funding do they give? Any help would be great. Like most one here, I am a bit nervous and hope to make it into one of the these schools.
