As I'm currently awaiting decisions from math grad programs (both MS/MA and PhD), I'm wondering if settling for a masters program is worth it in the case of a non-terminal degree. I see a few options if rejected from doctoral programs:
1: settle for a masters, work for a few years, return for doctoral study after some work experience.
2: settle for a masters, apply to doctoral programs upon graduation, hope credits transfer.
3: wait until next season, strengthen my resume, hope to be admitted to a doctoral program next year.
Simply, my UG GPA isn't fantastic, CV and extracurriculars are above average. If rejected from doctoral programs, the goal is to strengthen my CV through a masters program, hopefully jumping to the next tier of doctoral programs.
So the question remains, which option to choose if it comes down to it? Any thoughts are appreciated.
