  1. All my documents were in on 31 Oct. I applied for MIA, it may be that they are releasing these course wise.
  2. Hi I just got my decision after applying early. I got in! Now the scholarship game begins.
  3. Thank WinterSolstice. I also spoke to the respective Adcoms. I can use references, but they suggest that I take up a topic I am comfortable with and can endorse my own opinions and go in depth. Which is pretty much what both of you said! Back to writing! Thanks for all the help!
  4. Your work experience is great, I think you can apply to the biggies. Was your GPA low because of a particular class or particular classes? From what I know, more than your overall GPA, they look at specific scores. For example if you aced your IR class but did badly in say, linguistics, you're fine. In the optional essays, you can explain that the reason you did poorly in X subject is because of Y reason. However, if your grades in politics/econ classes is low- then maybe taking up some community college courses or a diploma programme and acing them will offset our scores. That's just my opinion. I think Kaneisha, who frequents these forums, is exceptionally good at transforming challenging cases. You can try contacting her. Her website is artofapplying.com. I find her blog posts useful as well.
  5. Thanks! I am writing on an issue I work with, and writing about it comes naturally for me - Gov2School- For WWS this will work. I wanted to substantiate my points with data- which is where the reference question cropped up. Can I do that? I'll check the blog post. WinterSolstice- thanks! Your JHU tip is helpful. I'll check with the Adcom for both JHU and CIPA
  6. Hi, A quick question. For these essays, can we use academic papers and research and reference them accordingly? For example, I cannot use primary data for the issue I want to write about, even though I have done research in the field. This is because the research reports are not in the public domain yet, and are confidential with the government. I can present my case with open source data, and explain. Would this be okay?
  7. I have applied early too. They have mentioned it in their blog posts. But I'm a little unsure. If I look at it logically, many people who have applied early are the ones who have strong applications and have managed to organize everything early. In my head, it sounds more competitive! But since they have been looking at applications for so long, it may not be a relative selection from the smaller pool, but just strong applicants who would have gotten in irrespective of which deadline they applied to. As you can see, my thought process is quite confused. Can anybody give insight to how the early notification works?
  8. Hi, I'm just going to give you my unqualified opinion... 1) The fact that this politician got on the wrong side of the media was not YOUR fault. That being said, we as applicants do have a responsibility to choose people with integrity to vouch for us. But as you did not have knowledge of all this you can: a) Choose a new referee. You are early with your submissions. With the exception of SIPA, the early notification deadlines of Fletcher and SAIS at least are still open. You can add a new referee after submission, as far as I know. I doubt they have started reviewing apps yet. If these news reports are REALLY bad- like he extorted money or killed someone, then I think it might be a good idea to choose a new person. If the reports are just conjecture, then let it be. Tufts Adcom is really nice. Would you want to try and explain this to them on the phone and see what they say? You can take a call for the other Univs accordingly.
  9. Hello there! (Long time lurker, first post) Anyone here applying for the Early Notification deadline? It is tomorrow. Even though the Adcom guys have said that there is advantage or disadvantage given to the early applicants except the early decision, is that really true?
