  1. I am under the same situation, as an international student I am not sure how both schools rank in the field and which one is better to secure jobs after graduation. The smaller classes at Yale are a plus in terms of learning experience, however the bigger network at Columbia also helps a lot. I am under the impression that SIPA holds more events for the students to network too and while both schools have an amazing reputation in general, Yale's brand seems to be more prestigious. Additionally, I really love New York and all that it offers and am very concerned with New Haven's bad rep. One thing is for sure, New Haven is cheaper than New York. Really torn between both schools, would love to hear what others think.

  2. I lived in HGS (Yale Grad Housing) my first year and it was terrible. You pay way too much from your stipend to eat lousy cafeteria food. Not to mention cockroach infestations were not infrequent.

My roomate and I are looking for a 3rd roomate for the fall. here is our craigslist ad, hit me up if you want more details: https://post.craigslist.org/manage/4907717469/s8q28

Wow that sounds horrible, thank you for the info! I actually don't qualify for HGS, but I definitely tried and was informed it is only for graduate students of the School of Arts and Sciences.

Do you know of anyone that was living in the Yale owned apartments downtown?

  3. The same thing happened to me. In the end I didn't have enough time to retake the exam and had to submit my scores that way. Fortunately, I got in at my top choice, so don't worry too much about it. One thing you can do is submit your scores to meet the deadline and explain the situation to the admissions officer and they will probably give you a few more days to submit your new scores after the deadline has passed.

  4. Hey CantHardlyWait,

Your nickname applies so perfectly to my situation. IIE has applied to 4 schools for me and I have only applied to two impossible schools myself (Harvard and Princeton). Thus, I have had no correspondence from the school directly and I have heard nothing from IIE so far, thus making me super super anxious and stressful.

    My profile.

    - Engineer - mix of chemistry and chemical engineering, from one of the top 10 engineering colleges of my country

    - GPA - 8.2/10

    - Work experience of 3 years : 1 year in different engineering segments - solar cells, oil and gas, nanotechnology research. 2 years in a policy think tank on an environmental project with the ministry of environment of my country.

    - GRE score - 326/340 and 3.5/6 (seems like this AWA score will take me down)

    - No publications

    - Strong recommendations (I hope)

    - Fulbright Scholarship.

I have no idea what to add to my profile , in case of a rejection. I have sort of given my 100% and the gazillions of negative and positive thoughts while waiting for results are literally killing me. Hope to get some soon.

I hope you do get in Purewar23, you have a great profile. Best of luck! No word on any of your universities yet? I've had no news... Can't barely concentrate at work, specially because I haven't heard what is Fulbright's position in all of this which is making me more nervous. I am afraid they will not want to choose my top choice.

I wish for April 15th to come already, but we are two months away!

  5. Thanks rilkehayden,

I am waiting anxiously for F&ES and was accepted to Nicholas last week. Does anyone have opinions on how these two MEM programs stack against each other?

Hi dachensky, congrats on your acceptance!!

I believe you can find some info on both programs here:

Also, you should try to attend both open houses if you can. I am sure that it will make your decision much easier.

    Best of luck!

  6. I applied to just 2 schools, MEM at Yale and Duke.

    Congrats once again!!

how many years of experience do u have? Is it in environmental field?

Thankss :)) 6 years of experience in the energy field, 2 years environmental non-profit. Applied for the Energy and the Environment concentration.

Just heard back from FES! Cant believe it but I'm in! Dream come true. Happy to share my profile if anyone is interested.

Congratsss JJ123!!!!! will you be attending the open house in april? Do share your profile, I would love to know :)

  7. I applied to Berkeley´s MDP! Not too sure about it, I`ve tried contacting Eunice Kim via e-mail several times to update something on my application and I get no replies. During the application process I tried contacting her too and she only answered 1 out of 5-6 e-mails. Hope they received my application at least.

  8. I received my decision on friday, I was admitted :) super happy. No info on funding yet. Still need all other universities to respond in order to move forward as Fulbright has the final word when all decisions are in. Good luck to everyone!!

  9. Hi all! I am sending my last application next week.

Fluent in Spanish and English, intermediate knowledge of Italian

I am not familiar witht the American/European application system, but I'm crossing my fingers!

Applied to: Harvard, Georgetwon, American University, New School, Oxford, LSE, Sciences Po, IHEID

    Anxiously waiting for admission decisions!

Hi Joqom, to what programs did you apply in Harvard, Georgetown, Oxford, LSE and Science Po? I would really love to know in case I do not make it this year.

  10. Hi there! I'm applying from the UK. How about you?

From Latin america, I am currently in the process of applying to the schools. Have you finished your applications already?

I don't know if the procedure is the same in the UK, but we work with a placement advisor from an agency (LASPAU) and apply to 5 universities. My only concern is what happens after we get the decisions from those universities. Does the Fulbright through the placement agency has the final word on which university to choose?

  11. My experience with the application process was so far good. I'm not sure how much weightage is given to the GRE score, hope not much :-). Squeezing in everything you want the admissions committee to know is so hard with 600-word limit, right? I had to truncate a lot because of the word limit. Was your SOP 2 pages?

Hi Jojo2015, my SOP was 1 page and 2 lines long, so technically it is 2 pages long. Yours? Did you manage to fit everything under 600 words?

  12. Anyone here applied to the Master's program at FES? If so, what other schools are you applying to and what are your stats? It would be good to get to know some of us during the wait. I am very concerned with my low GRE scores even though I have good work experience.

I am applying to Yale FES MEM, Duke MEM, Columbia SIPA, Berkeley MDP, UT Austin MPA.
