  1. Well, both programs want to know my decision by April 15, and I'll be visiting NCSU on March 28, so probably the first week of April! Will you be visiting NCSU as well?
  2. Thanks! Tech and NCSU were my only realistic possibilities, and in terms of program quality NCSU edges out Tech because their program is more established for the study of ancient history. If I go to Tech, I'd basically have to build my own program from scratch because they don't typically accept students for ancient history. Still, that's not such a bad thing...this time last August I didn't think I'd have a chance in hell of studying ancient history on the graduate level due to my lack of languages, but now I've been accepted to two programs in that field! Anyway, I'll hold out for the possibility of being offered a TAship at NCSU....if it doesn't work out, Tech is still a solid option. It sucks you didn't get anything from NCSU, though. I hope GWU turns up something better for you!
  3. Hey KB Historian, I just got an email from the DGS at NCSU saying I'd been waitlisted for funding...which is a bummer, because I probably won't be able to attend unless I get funding....but hopefully you'll hear a decision soon! On a more positive note, I got accepted into Texas Tech yesterday and they offered me a TAship for 13k/yr along with partial tuition and fees waived! I'm really glad I heard about that first, it helped to offset the news today.
  4. Congrats KBHistorian, that's frustrating but at least they rectified their error quickly!
  5. Me too! I was just lurking on the public history thread and saw that someone got funding at NCSU, and I was like what?!?!?! Also, congrats Heimat Historian!
  6. Hey everyone! I've posted a couple of times but I've been pretty busy lately so I haven't been very consistent. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted! Also, condolences to those who were rejected; I got rejected by Duke yesterday. Hang in there! Okay, so this is probably a bit of a long shot, but is anyone here applying for an MA or PhD at Texas Tech? I'm just wondering because I haven't seen anything about it on this thread, and the last result is from 2013...lol. I was hoping to have heard back from them by now... Also, to those accepted to NCSU, any word on funding? I was told by the DGS that the funding decisions would be made a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything yet.
  7. If I get funding then I definitely will! I'm excited about the chance to even just dialogue with another ancient history professor (my undergrad institution only had the one)! I know, I'm freaking out! I can't wait to know my options with NCSU and Tech...after talking on the phone with my POI from Tech last December, he said he'd write the Graduate School and recommend me for acceptance, but I haven't heard anything back yet....I'll absolutely let you know when I hear from NCSU though!
  8. Cool! Well, they just have one full-time professor in ancient history, so it must have been him I guess! Nope, no language exams! I had all but given up hope that I could pursue Ancient History as my field, due to my lack of language experience, until I found NCSU. Now I actually might get my PhD, eventually! By the way, I heard back from the Director of Graduate Programs about funding. She said they'd hopefully be making decisions and sending out emails by the end of the week! It would be great to know someone there! NCSU is my top choice, along with Texas Tech because they're offering a similar deal. I just hope funding comes through on at least one of them...
  9. I'm doing Ancient History! NCSU was one of the only programs I found which doesn't require prior experience in Greek or Latin. Yeah, same here. I just sent mine in today, so hopefully I'll find out about funding soon!
  10. Congratulations! I was just accepted into North Carolina State as well, for the History MA program, on the same conditions! Have you heard anything about funding yet?
