  1. RT @LouisWTNews: #GIF | Louis replies to a fan from Twitter who asked to marry him. 10.12.15 #2 http://t.co/yo28qZIOSJ
  2. I really hope community /does/ get that movie and that the entire cast reunites and it's actually good and not a let down ///sigh a lot///
  3. Had you already given an interview or were you accepted without one? Also, congratulations!
  4. I was going for the PhD in Film Studies, it's offered under the History of Art and Architecture program.
  5. Thanks I received an email from them with a pdf attachment. They said they'd also send me an actual letter because ... you know, who doesn't want to get rejected using two different methods
  6. Well ... I just received my rejection from the University of Pittsburgh *sigh*
  7. Oh bless you, I could really use a distraction! I can't think of any "favorite" in-field books at the moment but for pleasure reading, I recently read The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender and thought that was absolutely beautiful. I also probably watch a bit too much TV (oops? ) my current favorite is Parenthood which is ending this Thursday.
  8. ^I haven't heard from Wisconsin either, nor have I heard from UT-Austin and I don't know if no news is good news or cause for panic at this point! Nothing can be done besides constantly refreshing my email though. Good luck on the beanie baby profit! And I'm sorry to hear about the USC rejections, hope you guys get some good news from other universities soon.
  9. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted so far. This is all very exciting news! However, all this acceptance talk is making me super super anxious about the fact that I haven't received any replies from any of the schools I've applied to I've refreshed my email so much I'm going insane!
  10. I'm going to go with another LOR too, my professor's being extremely unresponsive at the moment and I just can't wait any more. I've applied to NYU Tisch, Steinhardt, Syracuse, UT-Austin and I'm going for Northwestern, Pittsburgh and probably Wisconsin-Madison. I had a few more initially picked out because I really don't want to risk this and to have to wait another year but, like Autumn said, as I started writing my SoP's I realized that not all of them are good fits for me so I've narrowed it down to 6-7. (any other good universities you'd recommend? I'm a cinema student from Iran and I'm looking for a degree in film/media studies.)
  11. Thank you so much for that suggestion. I was so caught up in freaking out I didn't even consider it! I emailed them and they said they'd still accept it as long as he submits it before next week so ... fingers crossed!
  12. Hey everyone, I've been lurking on this thread for a while now and I've now reached severe stress levels so I'm finally posting as a way of calming myself down. I'm applying for film/media studies PhDs. My GRE scores aren't bad (160 V, 167 Q, 5.0 AW) and I'm pretty happy with my SoP and my writing samples but I'm still seriously freaking out. I keep crossing off universities that have upcoming deadlines because I'm either hopeful I'll get accepted to the ones I've already applied to or I'm pretty sure I wont get accepted to them anyways. Lol, it's definitely a stressful time! One of my LoR writers STILL hasn't submitted his LoR for an application that was due Dec 1st. I've emailed him multiple times and I just don't know what the hold up is. Should I just let it go or substitute another professor instead? Will they even accept it if he submits it now, almost ten days after the deadline?
  13. Hi, I'm hoping to apply to the PhD in film studies program at NYU and am currently working on my dissertation for my Masters in the same subject (in Iran). I'm starting to slightly freak out about my chances so I'd really like to know the opinion of someone more familiar with the university and the field. The ideal situation for me would be getting accepted to the PhD program; however, I know that the competition is high, so I'm also going to apply for the MA program as well as several other PhD programs (Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Northwestern). I have a 4.0 GPA, I'm almost done with my MA in film studies and I have a BA in architecture. On the GRE I got: 160 Verbal / 167 Quantitative / 5.0 AW I also got a 120/120 on the TOEFL exam. My dissertation is on the evolution of the musical film and so that's why I think that New York, with its proximity to Broadway, would be the best fit for me. I've emailed a professor at the university and he's offered me advice on my SOP and my writing sample but I was under the impression that professors had to approve of the PhD applicants beforehand and well, he hasn't done that, all he's said is that my application will be considered along with everyone else's. I wanted to know whether having a professor's acceptance before applying is necessary and whether I actually have a shot at the PhD program or if I should set my hopes on another university instead. Any help/guidance you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
