  1. Has anyone heard back yet? I feel the chances of getting this is very low
  2. ugh, i'm just being pissy. Hopefully NDSEG or CSGF give me good news. Sorry to be annoying if I was!
  3. What other parameters do they score? I thought it was all based on the reviews. Yeah, they probably won't give a crap though :/
  4. Wait, I got VG/VG, E/E, E/VG for bioengineering undergrad senior, but I go no award or even honorable mention. But I heard that someone got worse reviews (4 VG and 2 E), was senior undergrad in bioengineering and got honorable mention. Isn't this unfair? Should I call them tomorrow?
  5. how do you know if you got it or not? My final status says: not recommended, so does that mean I didn't get it? But I got VG/VG, E/E, E/VG and I'm an undergrad senior.
  6. I really wish I could give you some help or insight but I really can't because I don't know much about those schools. But if you don't get into your desired grad school (which we all hope that doesn't happen ), taking a year off is really not that bad. It seems all the top applicants during my interview weekends worked in a couple months to a couple years after graduation. A lot also did Masters. I know a couple of people who did bad their first time applying, but after some additional experience and perhaps a Master's, they got into almost all their top choices! So please don't be too stressed and know that if you are motivated, things will work out! I bet you'll still do great things!
  7. I did BioE at Berkeley, so I can answer any questions you have for Berkeley!
  8. Thanks for your input! I was thinking of asking professors about their opinion of Caltech versus UCSD, do you think that would be a good measure of how good a school is in terms of the academia world? Btw, congrats on all the acceptances! Are you leaning towards a specific school so far?
  9. There are 2 professors at each school where I can really see myself work there. The research at Caltech seems more exciting and fields I will love to learn more about but am not experienced in yet while UCSD research is more translational (cool to see the application as well) and closer to the research I did in undergrad (and wouldn't mind doing in grad school as well). I feel Caltech caters towards the academia route, which is what I'm leaning towards; however, I think I will be happier at UCSD (graduate students at UCSD seemed to be happier and I like the more lively campus). Any thoughts?
  10. Hello people! Do you guys have any insight or opinion between these two programs? I am leaning towards academia like professorship and I heard during my visit at Caltech that a lot of professors nowadays came from Caltech (but idk if BioE specifically). But UCSD is a higher ranked school and San Diego has a big biotech industry (but I am probably not going to do industry). Essentially, it's Caltech's big name in general vs. UCSD top ranked BioE program. What do you guys think? Any views would be great!
  11. From the interview, they said that they invited around 60 students but only like 50 people attended interviews, so they may accept some people from the waitlist. They also stated they wanted to accept around 55-60 students. If you haven't heard back yet, there's a chance you will be on the waitlist!
  12. And you applied to BioE right? Stanford and MIT have sent out rejections already, weird. Did you call the schools already?
  13. Have you contacted those schools about ur NSF? Has that changed their decision for you?
  14. Rejected by Harvard bioengineering just now. Checked website
  15. yup, and what's weird is that they were reimbursing international students (up to $900!) and they invited like at least 5 of them during my interview weekend. Maybe that shows how much Caltech can spend on these things.
