  1. I have reached an all new level of email obsession I did not think was possible. I think they are trying to break us.
  2. I am really excited for my first campus visit at the beginning of March. I wish the other five schools would make a decision already!

Same! I can't wait to see the campus. And I think if I have other acceptances I will be considering how early my first one was. They have their shit together!

It does make a difference. I am also very excited because of how warm and welcoming everyone has been at the campus, even though we have only spoke via email. Another of the schools that accepted me has done nothing in the way of reaching out. It makes me think the atmosphere on their campus s probably much colder and less personable, which is not somewhere I want to be for the next few years.

  3. Do you care to elaborate? You can PM me if you would prefer.
  4. What makes you think they would be rejections? I am waiting to hear from UW too (and four other schools). It is bringing out a new level of obsessive I did not know I had. Would anyone be willing to do a call exchange? I was lurking on the sociology group and they were exchanging schools to call. Each person would call a school they had not applied to to get some sort of idea about when they would be making their decisions and no one (hopefully) at the school was any wiser about who was being impatient.
  5. Thanks for your thoughts! There is overlap. One of my POIs is a prof in the Sociology Department. I really want to get into a good program that will prepare me for a PhD program and will also look really good on my CV. I know names aren't everything, but they do count for something.
  6. I was accepted into the Women's, Gender and Sexualities MA program at Brandeis and the Gender/Cultural Studies MA program at Simmons. I received funding from both. Thoughts?
  7. I am definitely going to ask for an extension and try and visit both campuses (as well as others if they accept me). I have been told that it is necessary to visit before making the final decision about where to go. @RoundandRoundAgain: I see that you are in Boston would you mind answering some questions about the area? I am a single mom and would like any helpful tips/knowledge about Boston and the surrounding area you would be willing to offer. You can PM me if you are willing and would be more comfortable with that.
  8. I was just accepted to an MA program at Brandeis. It is designed to take a year but I can go part time and I am pretty sure I can receive funding (merit based and need based) for two years. For me this would be ideal because I am a single mom (something I left out of all of my grad apps). What are the best neighborhoods as far as price and schools go? Also, can anyone speak to the jobs on campus. I currently work at my universities writing center and my acceptance email said that many grad students work on campus either at the writing center or in other positions. Are they highly competitive? Do they pay well? If I attend Brandeis I know I will need to take out loans but would like to keep them as low as possible.
  9. I am at a school that is an affiliate campus of IU Bloomington. It is an amazing school! I have presented at their Women's and Gender Studies conference for the last two years and I think anyone who gets in there is amazing! I am assuming your work involves queer theory, LGBTQ studies, or media in one way or another. I know that is what they specialize in and look for most often. I have a friend who is a PhD candidate and is defending her dissertation next month. I will see if she knows when they send out their decisions. University of Minnesota was my #1 pick. I guess I just wasn't right for them this time around. It would be a dream to work with Dr. Nagar! Good luck!! I am leaning towards Brandeis at the moment but am also hoping to hear back from the other schools soon. How have others asked about decision deadlines? I was wondering if I could use Simmons' early deadline reason to ask.
  10. Hey everyone! I hope your wait isn't to excruciating. I have applied to nine programs (a mix of MA and PhDs) thus far. I have heard from three that were rejections--Ohio State, University of Minnesota, and Rutgers--two that have accepted me with some funding--Simmons and Brandeis. I am still waiting to hear from U Wisconsin, U Washington, Arizona State, and U Texas. Has anyone heard from these other schools? Simmons wants a decision by March 13th,much earlier than the other schools I am assuming. Has anyone else run into early decision requests? Also, I have started the application process for DePaul but have lost motivation because of my other acceptances. Any suggestions on how to regain my motivation so I can submit just one last application?
