  1. Was admitted to UT-Austin today for PhD, but no information on funding.
  2. Still waiting for UT Austin as well. Has anyone heard from them? And there were a few other people who got into UW - Seattle as well - have any of you heard about funding yet?
  3. I'm pretty sure UC will let you do a PhD part time... that might be something you'd want to check out. It'd be pretty convenient if you're already in Cincy.
  4. Crontab, In was wondering the same thing. Their acceptance email was a little vague. It sounded like I'd have to pay my way to the visit day too... That'd be nearly impossible since I'm on the other side of the country. I was going to email them today to get some clarification.
  5. Texan, the only school I have NOT heard from is UT-Austin, though that's for PhD and not Masters. Still "patiently" waiting.
  6. Got into U Washington for Aero PhD! So excited. Looking forward to visiting Seattle.
  7. Also got notice of admission for University of Washington (Aero) and University of Connecticut (MechE) So relieved... Yes, by the 13th of this month.
  8. I'm visiting USC in early March, waiting to hear back for MAE programs at UCONN, UWashington, and UT-Austin.
  9. I didn't contact any professors and they did not contact me (other than the email saying to check my status online). What's your intended area of study? But I understand how you feel... Some people got into UT-Austin for Aero a few days ago and I'm still waiting for a response...
  10. Positively, I assume? I got into USC for MechE PhD, but still no funding info.
  11. Texan, I'm in the same boat. Haven't heard a thing and am becoming increasingly nervous... like should I be applying for jobs right now?
  12. Nope, nothing here. The universities to which I applied have all stated decisions will come by mid-March, so I'm trying to be patient and wait. That being said, I've still been checking my status online every day...
  13. I applied to USC, U Washington, and UT Austin so far. I have one more application that I'm working on though... UCONN. Each one seems to have a different flavor of the same topics, so hopefully if I get in to more than one I will have the opportunity to match my interests as closely as possible. I grew up in the Midwest and have been able to visit Purdue and Penn State's campuses and facilities - they're awesome! Love the towns and areas too.
  14. I am. Applying for a few Aero and MechE PhD programs now. I'm intending to study high speed combustion and combustion control.
  15. It's not the publications I'm concerned about, it's the GRE score. With 155V/164Q, I'm pretty average-ish for engineering, but I was hoping to get 90th+ percentile for both sections. Had that happened, I would have applied to schools like Caltech, Princeton, and Berkeley for combustion, but since I don't want to take the GRE a second time and study for it I'll settle for the other middle tier schools. I did swap ASU for USC, however. Both professors I was interested in working with at ASU are no longer taking students, so I've added USC to the mix.
  16. No publications, right. I did do two poster presentations and two oral presentations about my research, but nothing published. Though the institutions to which I'm applying may be low ranked as national universities, the departments themselves are pretty good. Like UT Austin, for example, is probably top 3 or 4 for high speed aero. ASU has a member of the NAE doing turbulence and combustion studies.... etc. They're not at the top, but they're certainly not bad at all.
  17. Because I don't think I can get in - I don't want to spend a fortune applying to places so I need to balance prestige with competitiveness.
  18. Undergrad Institution: Large state school known for football, not engineering Major(s): Mechanical Engineering Minor(s): Undergraduate Research Minor GPA in Major: 4.0 Overall GPA: 4.0 Length of Degree: 4 year degree Position in Class: I'm close to the top. Maybe top 5%. Type of Student: Typical white male. GRE Scores: Q: 164 V: 155 W: 4.0 Research Experience: REU at prestigious university (freshman summer) 6 semesters (3 academic years) of research experience at own University Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Academic free-ride to current institution Several (6-8) research-based awards Pertinent Activities or Jobs: REU for freshman summer Internship with jet engine manufacturer for sophomore summer Internship with Air Force defense contractor junior summer Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: I'm the PI for my research - became fully funded through internal and external sources culminating in an industry sponsorship I'm applying for high speed combustion studies and have worked in that industry (hypersonics), so that's a plus. Applying for PhD at: University of Washington, Aerospace Engineering University of Texas, Aerospace Engineering Arizona State University, Aerospace Engineering UCONN, Mechanical Engineering
