  1. I am a first year graduate student. I just finished my first semester. I am applying other graduate programs now. I'm wondering whether should I provide the transcript for the first semester. Because the school doesn't have B+/B-, getting a B means GPA 3.0. I think it will give bed impression to the admission committee. Since I have applied two schools before the finals. I didn't have transcripts at that time. So I didn't provide transcripts. But right now I have the transcript. I don't know whether I could neglect this and tell them I am in the current school in the SOP and CV other than provide the transcript.
  2. I am wondering how to finish my sop. I would like to conclude and reiterate my interests in the program. But I don't know how organize this. Could anyone help with that? Thank you in advance and hope you all good luck! Below is what i wrote. But I think it is not what I want. I am an international student. So, there maybe some mistakes... ------------------------------------------------- With my strong theoretical and practical background combined with my enthusiasm in teaching, I believe that I can be successful in my graduate study. I think the ***department at the University of Massachusetts is an ideal place to get in for the following three reasons. First of all, your department is among the best *** research institutes. Second, the faculties of your department, especially Dr.*** and Dr. ***, are doing the research which is fascinating and challenging and matches my interest. Last but not least, you have a very close relationship with many research centers. I think I would really enjoy this wonderful atmosphere if I could do research at your school. ---------------------------------------------- I am wondering do I need to make it more detailed. For example, the last reason, do I need to include the names of specific research centers and the reason why i like them?
  3. I have similar problem but I am a first year graduate student. I cannot join the group that i am interested in after I came here (funding problem). And I am considering transferring. I don't know to what extend should I talk about my current program in the application.
  4. I am an international student in graduate school. I'm reapplying this year. Since I 'm not a native speaker. I believe that there should be many mistakes and improper expressions in my SOP. So I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me correct my SOP.
  5. Will that way too higher for me? I just a little bit regret for that I refused the acceptance of the other school, afraid of getting no offer... Thanks!
  6. You mean the chemistry department at Riverside? I didn't find much polymer research.
  7. Yes, my GRE scores are not good. I don't know how to prove my English proficiency? I have relatively high TOEFL score. And I am teaching gen chem course here. It seems hard to get reference letter from here because I don't have a research advisor. But the department could provide some documents to prove i dont have any academic problems. thank you!
  8. Hi, I am an international student from China. I am currently in a chemistry department a US university. I want to reapply several other schools because I can't join the groups interests me here(no funding). Here are some basic information: GRE: v 151, q 168, aw 3.0 TOEFL: 109 (r 27, l 29, s 24, w 29) undergrad GPA: 3.6/4.0 I have two year's research experience of polymer materials. 2 publications in that field(one is 2nd author, the other is 3rd author). The IFs are both around 3. I notice that most chemistry department have very little faculties doing polymer. I have a bachelor degree of polymer materials and engineering. So I don't know my chances to apply other department like polymer/macro molecule. Since I am a first year student, I don't know whether I will be considered equally as other new applicants? Right now, I have some ideas but I think I should apply several more department of chemistry, University of Washington, department of chemistry, Univeristy of Maryland, department of polymer science and engineering, UMass, department of chemistry, Stony Brook, Thanks in advance!
  9. I have kind of similar questions with NoOneLikesAs. Will they have any preference for the new applicants? I am a first year international student. Because of the funding problems, I can't join the groups interest me here. So I want to reapply. I think I got very little new things. But I learn a lot of skills of operating several instruments. And also I am teaching.
  10. I just receive a new that I was accepted for the spring semester... They are processing the documents... I don't know it's a good news or bad news.
  11. I also have a question. If I care about the AAU label and do not want to go to this school now, what should I tell the professor? Just tell him the truth? Or do you have some other good reasons?
  12. Thank you! I asked if i could join the groups next year. Right now, they just let me to broaden my interests... But I already have my interests and have been in that area for two years. If i tell the professor my concerns, I think he will be very mad i guess...
  13. I like his research. That's why I contact him. But when considering the ranking and location, I think this school is not that satisfying. And I didn't expect that he will respond me so quick.
  14. Yes. Thank you! The adviser is needing students now, so I think he will find a way to let me in this spring as he said in the telephone. That's why I am anxious. I don't want let the professor waste his effort to let me in.
  15. And does AAU matter? Because I am in an AAU school but the other one is not an AAU. And I have talked with the professor. I agreed if they gave an offer, I will accept it. But right now, I think I should make careful decision.
  16. Currently, I am a first year Ph.D. student in a university. But I can't join the two groups that interest me because they don't have funding to support new students. So I want to transfer to another school. Now, I am facing a difficult choice. I have planed to reapply several schools. But there is a professor in another school want to take me this spring. Although it is a really good news, it is also really unexpected. And I want to go to a better ranking school. But if I reapply other schools, I don't know the possibility of being accepted. Especially, when considering that I am not a new applier.
