  1. Has anyone heard from UF IDP? I work at UF and I don't believe anyone has heard anything. They supposedly have an interview weekend 2/1-2/3. Let me know if you have heard from them!!

I work here too (Hi!), and they haven't sent anything yet. Grad students told me they usually send invites the first week of feb, so the February 1-3 dates is probably a mistake. I think it's actually March 1-3.

  2. What if it's because you were wait-listed, though? Now that we're at the tail-end of rejection season (not for ecology programs, but almost everyone else) and the beginning of rejection season, I would say that not receiving a letter of invitation or rejection means you either accidentally didn't complete the app or you've been waitlisted.

Possible! Definitely if others have received a rejection and you haven't.

  3. Out of curiosity, what is with the assumed rejections (in the sigs)?  I have noticed this from other posters, too (non-bio).  Is this because you were not invited to interview?

Usually people put that when they haven't been invited to interview for a particular program, but they know all the invites have been sent out. Basically "The rejection has not arrived yet, but it's coming".

  4. If anyone is waiting on Stanford Biosciences, I emailed and got the following response,

"The applications are still under review. In general, if one has not heard about a possible invitation by the end of January, it is unlikely that you will be invited to Stanford or admitted. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will receive a letter which states that no further action will be taken on their application by the Committee on Graduate Admissions and Policy"

I think this is probably just an automatic response for all bioscience inquiries and doesn't really apply to whatever home group you ask about...

It may be a general response, but at least apps are still under review! Then again, the "till the end of January" thing is probably just to reserve their right to invite people if anyone turns down their interview invite (*gasps*).

I haven't seen anything new on the results thread, but I'll be stalking it diligently until I hear either way..

    Also, thanks for e-mailing!!

  5. They are my last school, I just want to know- rejected or not! Probably should wait until the end of the week before bugging the admissions office for my home program.

I'm surprised schools just don't run twitter pages or blogs where they could easily update if all invites have been sent out for certain programs. Then they wouldn't get a zillion emails/calls from anxious applicants. If I ever magically end up in charge of graduate admissions I will do this!

YES that would be perfect! They have a Facebook (and it looks like they actually use it). I've been checking it hoping they would say something, but no luck: https://m.facebook.com/StanfordBiosciences?refsrc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FStanfordBiosciences

  6. There are some posted for Stanford biosciences already, but I assume they do the different home programs in groups. Kinda wishing I never stumbled upon gradcafe in the first place, I could be blissfully unaware of when invites started going out!

True, it's probably going by home program. And I know! It satisfies my craziness, but also reinforces it ;)

  7. So I just noticed people posting results from Stanford on the results page. Good luck to everyone waiting on those decisions :)

^^I second this! I'm also waiting to hear back from them. It seems people have reported phone call & email invites. Does anyone know which we should expect from the Biosciences program (aka, should I keep refreshing my email or turn my volume up)?

  8. are invitations sent out later in the evening as well or shouldn't I expect anything to come after 6pm or so?

I've actually received most of my invites after hours. Maybe that's abnormal, or maybe my email is slow, but Ive had them arrive at 9:00pm! Not to add to your craziness and make you hover over your inbox even more, but it's possible to get them later. You also have to consider that if you're in a different time zone than the school you applied to, they're working at different times.

  9. For those who have received UNC BBSP interviews, how did you accept the invitation? There is a link to a form to fill out, which I did a couple days ago, but I haven't heard anything else from the school since filling it out. This makes me wonder if I should actually respond by email to the invitation in addition to filling out the form.

I emailed him back accepting the invitation & saying I filled out the form! I don't think theyll check the the forms until after break when they're starting to make travel plans, so I would definitely email to accept!!

  10. @Lana 193 and any others who are considering the plan of accept and then plan to email to switch later this is a big interview faux pas and kind of inappropriate. Once you commit to a weekend you should assume you are unable to move your date especially if its for the reason that another school came along that you want to interview at more. As I have compared it previously, its like cancelling a date because someone hotter came along. Its just a poor move and you'll end up the one looking unprofessional, remember these people are now in your field/you future career. Don't make a name for yourself like that.

Thank you for the honesty! This is why I was so concerned about even waiting too long to reply to emails, I'm conscious of the professionalism aspect and I'm thankful you put this back in perspective.

  11. I waited about a week to respond to johns hopkins. I was going to wait to see if I got more interviews first but then I decided it wasn't worth the gamble for such a good program. Ideally I wan't to go to NYC so I responded to Sinai right away (they also gave me a deadline of a few days to respond) and I haven't responded to UPenn yet because according to previous years NYU Sackler and Columbia should be sending out invites soon (maybe this week?)

I'm in the same boat, waiting for invites that, if they come (fingers crossed :) ) probably will within the next few days! But I went ahead and responded this morning. Worst case scenario, I'll have to email and ask to be switched to the other weekend. Wouldn't be fun, but not the biggest deal in the world.

Oh man, I just remembered another user mentioning that the UCSF BMS committee meeting was today. Time to obsessively check my email!

I remembered this today. Killed my phone battery by checking my email so much. Based on past years, I think tomorrow or the next day we should definitely hear some news!

  12. Congrats to everyone getting invites! :D

Anyone have any idea how long would be too long to wait to reply to an interview invite?

I usually reply to emails within 24 hours, but with potentially conflicting interview dates I'm trying to strategically pick weekends when a school gives options.

I received an invite last Friday that I've been waiting to reply to because I know a LOT of invites will be sent out this week, and I want to avoid conflicting dates/ cancelling interviews as much as I can. But at this point I feel like I'm being rude for not responding. Do I need to email them ASAP or can I wait a few more days?

  13. Congrats to those who have interview invites already!  Color me jealous - most of my programs haven't even started reviewing applications yet.  As far as I can tell, only 3 of mine do interviews/prospective student weekends, the other 4 just send out acceptance/rejection emails in the spring.

Also completely jealous, but congrats!! If its anyone I'm glad its people from the forums :)

For those of you who were invited- how early before the deadline did you submit applications?
