  1. Thank you! After 22 years of living here, I'm out hahaha. All jokes aside though, it is a great program with very cool research going on, I wish the best of luck to you. The email I received went as follows "Your application has been received and carefully reviewed. We regret to inform you that we are not able to extend an offer of admission. Please be aware that the applications for admission this year are particularly strong, and we have been unable to welcome all of our promising candidates for admission." Soo yea, very generic hahaha.
  2. I was the one with the rejection, just got the email 30 minutes ago. I only applied in case I wanted to stay local, looks like I'm moving now .
  3. Just got my first invite from University of Colorado at Boulder! Soooo pumped.
  4. I'm doing the same exact thing! Hahaha. My whole family is in New York so I applied to a bunch of schools across the country but I mostly want to go to Cali lol. It doesn't help that my girlfriend sees this as a relocation opportunity and wants to live in Cali so she's been in my ear a little about that lol.
  5. Thank you for the encouragement, it is much appreciated in this time. I know a lot of my schools typically send invites out in January but it's still an anxiety provoking period of time. I'll try to stay positive .
  6. Well it would certainly suck if they were done and I have noticed that schools follow the trends that they set in previous years but if you end up calling and hearing otherwise, definitely post it on here. I would love to know.
  7. I'm right there with you and it sucks. I haven't heard a peep and I thought I would have gotten at least one by now. Definitely takes a shot at your self-esteem.
  8. Just curious because Berkeley was one of my top schools, how do you know they sent out all of their invites? I'd be pretty bummed if this is true.
  9. I too and waiting to hear from Irvine and I also had an unbelievably unpleasant interaction with the INP coordinator. After having an argument with him due to him being extremely rude I contacted the head of the department and informed her. She didn't seem surprised or frazzled but she did say that my application would be reviewed and my argument did not affect my status. I was informed that the committee would receive all application last Friday, 12/12.
  10. Congrats on the interviews! That's awesome! I saw a bunch of Berkeley invites go out but historically they don't send them out this early, it was really worrying me. Oh well, hopefully they keep them coming or do another round.
  11. I see that UC Berkeley sent out some invites, does anyone want to claim those interviews? Does anyone know if they are done with sending out invites?
  12. Hahaha, it's so bad because I check at around 9 a.m. even though I am aware that even east coast schools won't have done anything yet, and then I just say to myself, "they're probably still sleeping.....they should get up and e-mail me." hahaha
  13. Good Luck M.! Since I need to hear back from a lot of Cali schools and I'm on the east coast I keep looking at the clock and subtracting three hours and trying to figure out what time during the day they'll send out e-mails lol.
  14. I've been wondering the same thing but after going through the past interview invite dates, they historically send out invites this week. Hopefully we'll start hearing from them soon.
  15. Thank you! I see all of the neuroscience invites going on the results page so I have been refreshing my email at a record pace and I really should be on my way to final right now hahaha. Senioritis + awaiting grad school e-mails= deadly combo during finals week.
  16. Thank you so much for checking up on that for me, I appreciate it. It's hard to understand all of the different schools admissions process because they all seem to be different. It's really cool that you got an email from your POI, did you mention just one in your SOP?
  17. Oh wow you submitted your applications early! I didn't submit mine until late November. Well congratulations again and good luck on your interview!
  18. Congrats pasteltomato!!! That's great news! When did you submit your application? I think they do somewhat of a rolling invite based on when you submitted.
  19. I am applying mostly to neuroscience programs housed in biology departments to work with PI's who focus on cognitive related issues. My research interests vary depending on the schools I am applying to but they're all concerned with neuroimaging and EEG techniques. I applied to these programs because I find that the research being done in these schools do have a focus on cognitive issues but also try to delve deeper into systems and molecular neuroscience. I prefer a deeper look into the problem at hand. While the research being done through programs housed in psychology departments is good, I didn't find that their research was as intensive. I know that the research varies depending on the PI but this was the impression I got. I also like how neuroscience programs in biology departments have rotations while those in psych departments tend to not. I have been in contact with every program I have applied to and they encouraged me to apply since they like to have students from a multiple of disciplines. I have taken bio 1, bio 2, Chem 1, Chem 2, Calc 1, Calc 2, and statistics, so I have fulfilled some of their basic science prerequisites but not all. I have a computer science background and can program in 3 different computer languages. I have also taken biological psychology courses as well as tutored peers in those subjects. I am nervous that my shallow hard science background will disqualify me but I figured I'd take a shot. I may be a fairly unorthodox applicant but I felt that I would be happiest in a biologically based neuroscience program.
  20. I am so glad that this was made! Undergrad Institution: Small private liberal arts school Major(s): BA Psychology Minor(s): GPA in Major: 4.0 Overall GPA: I went to three different schools so if all three are accounted then 3.4, if just my degree granting institution, than 3.9 Position in Class: top 5-10% Type of Student: Domestic male GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q: 156 - 64% V: 158 - 74% W: 5.0 - 93% Research Experience: 2.5 years in cognitive neuroscience lab. Only research assistant. 5 different projects in which I was sole programmer and implementer. Paper in review. Poster presentation at international convention in March. 2 years in Clinical/Social Psychology Lab - Only undergraduate. 3 different projects. Designed, programmed, and lead 1 project. 4 months in Animal Behavior Lab- Nothing special here. 1 year sequence in Experimental Psychology- conducted individual research project Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Psi Chi National Honor Society Alpha Chi National Honor Society Member of Universities research society Secretary of my schools chapter of Alpha Chi Graduating Summa Cum Laude Dean's List every semester Pertinent Activities or Jobs: 2 years of pharmacy technician at CVS 2 years of tutoring other college students in statistics and various psychology courses Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Already had a phone interview with PI at University of Colorado Boulder. We spent 45 minutes talking about our research projects and my interest in graduate studies. He said my research would fit perfectly in there lab but gave no indication that I was definitely going to be admitted. He said that they'll review apps around Dec. 15th. I know that I had three great letters of recommendation since I have been working with my recommenders for so long and we often just chill in their offices just shooting the breeze. They tell me that I shouldn't have an issue getting in but why would I do the completely sane thing of listening to them? I'd rather drive my self crazy lol. Applying to Where: UC Irvine- Neuroscience UC Berkeley- Neuroscience UCLA- Neuroscience UC Davis- Neuroscience UC San Diego- Neuroscience USC- Neuroscience NYU- Neural Science Duke- Neurobiology UNC- Neurobiology University of Colorado- Cognitive Neuroscience (psych department) University of Iowa- Neuroscience University of Illinois- Neuroscience Some days I will be jumping with joy thinking "there's no way that I won't get into any school' while other days I'm laying face down on the floor contemplating my future since there is no way that I will ever get into a PhD program. This is certainly a roller coaster of emotions lol. I know I aimed high with some schools but I am hoping that they don't focus on my GRE and look at my research experience and great LOR's. I wish the best of luck to you all in this process!
