  1. Hello everyone,

Just like everyone else, I am eager to know what programs have extended offers and which ones haven't.

So far, I've been wait listed at Saint Louis University and accepted at the University of Tulsa.

A professor from Wright State called me last week, informing me that I made the first round, but have not heard anything since. Have any of you heard anything?

Also what about Central Michigan? It's my dream school, so I've been wondering on the status of their application process as well.

    Thanks, guys, and good luck!!

Congrats on U of Tulsa! If Clinical invites go out at the same time as I/O, Central Michigan invites went out in mid Jan for an open house next week. Sorry :( hoping for you that they go separately.

  2. The worst are the folks who are surprised I don't want to listen to their problems for free ... 'But you're a psychologist!!! Don't you want to help people?"

On an unrelated note: how are folks coping with the waiting anxiety?

Coping with the anxiety of waiting is always a related note ;) to every conversation and thought.

I work and listen to pandora during work, meaning I push refresh on my email almost as often as I change my station. I got a new dresser (and am currently working to get everything to fit into it-- actually watched how to fold on YouTube) and on the actual fun side I spend lots of time with my 2 year old nephew. This evening coming home I got the mail and squinted at each letter praying it wasn't from a school because it would be a rejection... *sigh* how about you constant_wanderer?

  3. ^^^^^^^^^^^ Yesyesyes. I'm using this thought to allow myself to enjoy the holidays!

and you have the comfort to know we are in this with you. I was tentative about this site, thought it might make it more difficult when I haven't heard back from schools-- but misery loves company and we are all waiting together. I love to rejoice with those who are rejoicing and I know I will grieve (obviously I'm not going to get into all 13 schools) so I will grieve with those who are grieving too. It's a nice lil community on here!

  4. Someone from Cambridge, MA viewed my academia.edu profile!!! *starts hyperventilating*

I didn't make that connection when I got an email update (btw, how do you tell the state? Mine just shows the country). I just thought it was one of my undergrad students looking it up (also a shocker-- my students have searched out and read my thesis).

isilya, hope you get good news soon!

  5. Hi everyone,

Based on everyone's posts, it seems like a lot of people have very different ideas about how many schools one should apply to. My question is: what is an appropriate number of schools to apply to when you only have about a month? Would it be completely ridiculous if I  asked my professors to send their letters to 14 different schools, if applications are due in 4-6 weeks? (Most of my deadlines are January 15th or later, but three of my apps are due in the first week of January - which is very soon!)

    Thanks!

I started out with 4 schools and my advisor (Recommender) told me I should be going for 12-15 for a clinical Ph.D. Often they can write one letter and just send it out to all your schools. I call one of my professors Ninja Ref. Sometimes it seemed like I would click send to provide his email address as a recommender and my email would alter that the recommendation was received.

All in all, your profs know the process and if they agree to write for you they are agreeing to the whole process. The question for you is what is the competition like in your field and how much do you want to spend on applying. Each app plus transcripts and GRE costs a few pretty pennies!

  6. Just found out the my top POI on my entire list is no longer taking students. He said that could change, but he doubts it will. There are other faculty in that program I match with enough so I"m still applying.

Should I still mention this POI in my SOP? I really like his research and my SOP is quite tailored towards those topics. An adcom might think I'm clueless if I don't mention him, but if I do, and he's not taking students, does that look bad?

That's the worst. I had that happen after ordering transcripts. Mine retired. I was early enough in the process that I researched and found there wasn't anyone else doing that same research, so I didn't apply. What did you decide?
