I was just sharing information that was passed on to me. I think it completely acceptable to retract your acceptance when you're asked to make a decision prior to the standard deadline. Everyone's situation is different, and like you said in the end you do need to make the decision that is best for you!
-
I turned down a school (where I did my undergrad) that offered me a full ride because I just didn't feel like it was the right fit for me and I didn't think it provided me with the opportunities I wanted. To me it was more important to pick a school that I really wanted to go to and that provided me with an opportunity to experience a wide variety of clinical settings. The school that I currently attend ended up offering me a 50% tuition waiver, a stipend, and the cost of rent is much lower in this area. Even though it is costing me more I honestly don't regret my decision. I was always told that you should avoid accepting an offer and then withdrawing your acceptance, because there is a chance that it will prevent someone on the waitlist from getting a spot in the program and could negatively impact the opinion that the faculty members have on you. I would ask your advisor or another faculty member about that.

I made my decision based on a few different things. To me it was important to attend a program where I felt comfortable. I also wanted to attend a program that would allow me to explore different areas of audiology and that had a wide variety of clinic placements. Lastly, I considered funding/costs. Rankings didn't have any impact on my decision, because I think that future employers will care more about our clinical experience and clinical abilities than about the rankings of the programs we attended. I think it's important to choose a school where you will be happy, because you will be spending several years there! I hope this was at least somewhat helpful!

What were you doing when you received your acceptance?
OhioAud replied to YA_RLY's topic in Waiting it Out
When I received my acceptance to the school I am attending I was on the phone with my dad telling him about how I didn't think I got in, because other people began posting acceptances and waitlists on the results page 3 hours earlier. It was 6 o'clock at night and I thought it was too late in the day to hear from the school, so I assumed a rejection email would be coming the next day. As I was talking to him, I heard my email *ding* and saw the acceptance email. -

I contacted Ohio State and they said that they already sent out acceptances and rejections, so those of us that haven't heard from them can consider ourselves "waitlisted". She did not say when they would be contacting people about official decisions, but I'm guessing it won't be until after the 15th.

My GPA is undergrad only. I think most Audiology programs will look at both, but will put more emphasis on your post-bacc. (I'm not 100% sure about that though)

We've created a Facebook group for the NOAC class of 2019! We would love to get to know our future classmates, so if you're going to NOAC in the fall you should join! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1651080528454257/

I would say that you are a competitive applicant! I was accepted by NOAC, Wisconsin, and Pitt and waitlisted at OSU this application cycle. My GPA is around a 3.7 and my GRE scores were a little lower than yours. I have research experience and experience working with and volunteering with children that are both typically and atypically developing. I had a strong personal statement and strong letters of recommendation. My advice is to make sure you tailor your personal statements to the schools that you are applying to. Some people don't do this, but I think its a good idea because it really shows that you've done your research on the program and that you are truly interested in the program. Good luck next fall! If you have any questions feel free to send me a message!

I've accepted my offer from NOAC!

I emailed Ohio State today about the status of my application and they said that they have offered admission to a first round of applicants and have denied a group of applicants. She said that my status can be considered as on the "waiting list" and that we will be notified if they are able to make more admission offers or if all spots are full. I figured I would share this, since some of you are in a similar situation with OSU.

At my undergraduate institution, and at a program that I visited, the professors highly discourage backing out after you have already committed to a program, whether it be Audiology or SLP. They said that this may make you appear unreliable to people on the admissions committee and there is a chance that those people could be prospective employers in the future. The view on this probably varies from program to program though. At the end of the day you need to do what you think is the best for your future.

Is anyone else still waiting to hear from Ohio State? They started sending out decisions almost a month ago and I still have heard anything.
-
I received an email from WVU with my interview time, but I have decided to withdraw my application because I was accepted by two of my top choices. Good luck on Friday!
-
I haven't heard anything either. I was hoping that we would hear from them today since we had to let them know if we were attending the interview by the 2nd. I also haven't heard anything from Ohio State, and my status is still listed as "pending" on their portal. I have no idea what this means for us, but I'm hoping it isn't bad...

I haven't heard anything about my interview either. I'm wondering if they're waiting until they hear back from everyone before sending out the details.
