Congrats!!!! I would be hyperventilating too It's very encouraging to hear that you got accepted by the best program you applied to, but rejected by the lower ones! How many lower ranked programs have you been rejected by (if you don't mind my asking)?
-
I didn't apply to NYU. So I thought I'd switch things up: I just called David Chalmers. And I tried to up vote posts here, but unfortunately I have reached my daily quota of up votes. What a measly quota it is...

Aw c'mon, Ian. Help a philosopher out and spill the beans
-
Huge congrats. If you do end up going to Calgary, I recommend you dress warm -- I'm Canadian, so I speak from experience
-
Congrats! By the way, is your "Also, it's 'she'..." a reference to the professor who called to convey the offer to you, or to my post? If the latter, my post uses "person", which is -- as far as I know -- gender neutral!

Notre Dame Philosophy, PhD (F15) Accepted via Phone on 19 Feb 2015 ♦ A 18 Feb 2015 report spam (Time is in Europe -- it was 1 AM. Really shouldn't have picked up.) This person sounds annoyed to have received an offer from Notre Dame's PhD program.

Ian, that's surprising. The "P.S." part is almost unprofessional.
-
It's a presumed rejection. I have not heard from the department. My application status still says "under review". I don't know if they have a separate adcom for this program or the same one. Incidentally, my AOS is Ancient.

Dear X (if I may), Soon you will receive a letter from the University telling you that we will not be offering you admission. I wanted to write you directly to say that we very much appreciate your interest in our program. I know all too well that an application represents a significant investment of time and money on your part. Over recent years the high rate of acceptance we’ve enjoyed has forced us to be especially conservative in the number of offers extended. This means we have been in the difficult position of selecting only a few students from a very accomplished and obviously talented group. That is, perhaps, only a small consolation; still, I hope it is some consolation. With appreciation for your interest and best wishes for the future, I am Sincerely yours, Marc Marc Lange Theda Perdue Distinguished Professor and Philosophy Department Chair University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3125 P.S. Totally kidding! Disregard this unbelievably kind and courteous rejection email. Offer letter attached.

I doubt it. Pretty sure that for the ~250 people (including me) who did not get an offer or wait list email today from UNC, there's a standard rejection email coming our way by the end of the week.

UNC is also sending out rejections? UNC Philosophy, PhD (F15) Rejected via E-mail on 16 Feb 2015 16 Feb 2015 Email from Joshua Blanchard. Wanted to inform me I wasn't among the qualified applicants being rejected To be clear: I've heard nothing from UNC yet.

Congrats! Which journal?
-
Good point about the missing wait list thread. And congrats on your offer from Pitt (and your Chicago offer, and your wait list at Toronto)! When did you get the wait list notification from Toronto, by the way? I noticed that there haven't been any Toronto wait list posts on the grad cafe results page. So I was still holding out hope that I might get wait listed at Toronto...oops! Also, has your application to Arizona been officially rejected? Edit: Just to be clear, I've had no news (which means bad news) from U of Chicago, Toronto, Arizona, and Berkeley.

My inane contribution to the "Which Philly is the best Philly" debate: Philly cheesesteak is the best Philly.

" Brown Philosophy, PhD (F15) Other via Other on 11 Feb 2015 A 11 Feb 2015 Note on below: meant to type Toronto. Late hour mistake; sorry everybody, keep hope!"

There's now a second Brown acceptance. Never mind! I searched "philosophy brown" in TGC admissions results page, and what I thought was a second 2015 acceptance was in fact the last 2014 acceptance. http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=philosophy+brown&t=a&o=&pp=25. Oops.

Just went to my inbox and saw an email from the University of Chicago. I applied there and am expecting to hear good or bad news from them any day. Heart skipped (several) beats. Then I realized that it's some perfunctory email form the graduate school about "choosing the right graduate program"... ...I think I'm gonna choose the graduate program which makes me an offer.
-
Assuming you do get an offer from Berkeley, would you pick them over Arizona?
-
There is only one acceptance from Berkeley posted. No wait lists from Berkeley have been posted. So it seems likely that Berkeley has yet to finish sending out offers and wait list notifications. I'd be shocked if I hear any good news from them, personally. But best of luck to you!

B's in grad school? Chances at PhD program?

What is your graduate GPA, if you don't mind my asking? -
Very interesting interests! Which parts of Aristotle's corpus have you worked on?
-
Welcome, Dusty. What are your areas of interest? (Also, 21 applications? That's gotta cost a pretty penny! )
-
Congrats! The offer from Missouri came with a fellowship too, right? That's got to feel even better!
-
Thanks. You too!

That's probably a good reason, yeah. But given the strength of their faculty, not to mention the fact that Brown is an Ivy League school, I'd still expect their placement record to be stronger. No doubt a great place to do a PhD, in any case.
